Just as it looked like the Patriots were beginning to turn things around and get back to being the dominant force that’s obliterated the AFC East in recent years, the team has been decimated by injuries this week.

Wide receiver Danny Amendola was knocked out of the team’s game against New Orleans with a nasty looking concussion, Aqib Talib suffered a lower-body injury in that game that could force him to miss this contest, and Jerrod Mayo’s pectoral injury suffered in that game was so serious that he was forced to go under the knife and has been placed on season-ending IR. All that has taken place while the Rob Gronkowski-saga continues with no end in sight.

Despite the injuries piling up, the Patriots were able to pull off a late comeback win over the Saints by a score of 30-27 last week.

Tom Brady hit receiver Kenbrell Thompkins from 17 yards out to put New England ahead for good. The steadying force for the Patriots on the field this season, Brady completed 25 of 43 passes for 269 yards with that big touchdown and an interception against the Saints. The fourth quarter comeback was the 38th of Brady’s career. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The New England defense accomplished their primary goal of taking away New Orleans tight end Jimmy Graham, holding him without a catch on six targets.

New York ran into a buzzsaw in their last game in the form of an 0-4 Pittsburgh team desperate for a win as they came off their bye week. The offense was never able to get going against a determined Pittsburgh defense, and quarterback Geno Smith was picked off twice in the contest, but Steelers defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau has had the number of rookie quarterbacks so it’s hard to be too tough on Smith.

The running game was also hit hard with injuries to Bilal Powell and Mike Goodson likely meaning an expanded role for Chris Ivory against the Patriots.

The New York defense did a good job of getting stops when they needed them in that game, holding Pittsburgh to four field goals in the 19-6 loss. Outside of their Monday night game against Atlanta, New York has held each of its opponents under 20 points this season.

The Patriots have dominated this series in the Bill Belichick era, going 12-2 ATS in their last 14 road games against the Jets, but this is a banged up New England team that will be making the trip to New York.

The Jets have looked good at home and after playing the Patriots tight in New England, expect them to give New England a run for their money on their home turf.

The Jets are 6-2 ATS in their last eight games played in the month of October.

The play: New York +4
