San Diego Chargers vs. Kansas City Chiefs Week 8 NFL Lines & Spread Prediction

MNF – San Diego vs. Kansas City Week 8 Gambling Preview

There may not be anything more annoying this NFL season than the radio ads that they relentlessly run to hype the fact that the San Diego Chargers and Kansas City Chiefs are set to meet this Monday Night Football on Halloween night.

Venue/Stadium: Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City, Missouri
Date: Monday October 31, 2011 – 8:30 PM ET
NFL Odds from Bodog
Money Line: -180
Spread (ATS): Chargers -3.5
Over/Under: 44

Trick this, treat that, all of the clichés in the world have been riddled off but when it comes down to it, the reality is that this is a crucial game for both teams with major playoff implications.

Despite that it is only week eight, the fact that the AFC West is so competitive means there is little room for error for those at the top, with just one game separating the Chargers, Chiefs, and Oakland Raiders for first place in the division. While San Diego has won three of its last four to lead the way, Kansas City hasn’t lost since falling 30-17 to the Chargers in week three, and will have an excellent chance to double their three-game winning streak if they can come out on top this Sunday, with home dates against the Miami Dolphins and Denver Broncos to follow.

Even more impressive than the Chiefs’ recent run has been the way that they have won, without both running back Jamaal Charles and safety Eric Berry, two key leaders on each side of the ball. Running backs Jackie Battle and Dexter McCluster have shared the majority of the carries and both have had success with an average of 5.1 yards per carry between them. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

That has made life easier for quarterback Matt Cassel, and it seems as though the offense is finally clicking. While the defense hasn’t been stellar, Kansas City did an excellent job creating turnovers with six interceptions in a 28-0 win over the Raiders last weekend.

Turnovers were the Chargers undoing in a 27-21 loss at the New York Jets, a game in which they led by 11 at halftime. Quarterback Phillip Rivers was responsible for both of them with two interceptions, and while he remains an elite player, he needs to be more careful with the ball. San Diego was barely able to overcome the Chiefs in week three when Kansas City was still figuring out how to persevere with all of those injuries, and the atmosphere will be entirely different this time around on the road in a hostile environment under the Monday Night Football spotlight, of course, on Halloween night.
