Last season, the Patriots dominated the Bills, winning 13-0 in Buffalo and 20-10 in New England. Both victories were more than good enough to cover the closing football betting odds. Dating back to the beginning of the ’06 season, the Pats are a perfect 5-0 SU and ATS against their division rivals. The Bills haven’t beaten the Patriots SU since 2003, and haven’t won in Foxboro since 2000.

After opening up the week as 9.5-point Foxboro favorites, the Patriots have since risen to -10.5. The ‘total’ is up a point from the opening number currently sitting at 47.5.

Buffalo bettors hope that this will be the season the Bills really get their offense rolling. The quarterback debate is now over, as QB Trent Edwards is the undisputed leader of the team now that JP Losman is playing in the UFL. After throwing for 2,699 yards and 11 touchdowns a year ago, Edwards will have a new weapon at his disposal in the form of WR Terrell Owens. T.O. is largely accepted as one of the best receivers in the NFL when his mouth is wired shut; the duo of Owens (69 rec, 1,052 yds, 10 TDs in 2008) and Lee Evans (63 rec, 1,017 yds, 3 TDs in 2008) should be one of the best in the league.

The biggest problem that the Bills and their newly-installed no-huddle offense will have in Week 1 is a lack of a running game. RB Marshawn Lynch has been suspended and will not play against the Patriots. That likely leaves RB Fred Jackson to carry the load. Jackson did rush for 571 yards and three touchdowns last season, but it’s never easy to take a 1,000-yard back like Lynch out of the lineup.

It’s also not easy taking a quarterback that led arguably the best offense in the history of the NFL out of the lineup either, but that’s what the Pats went through last season when QB Tom Brady suffered a season-ending injury in the first week of 2008. QB Matt Cassel led the team to an 11-5 record, but the Patriots became the first team in NFL history to win 11 games and not make the playoffs.

The Brady Bunch is back in the lineup though, and that’s awful news for opposing defenses. More specifically, that’s probably awful news for the Bills. In two games against Buffalo in ’07, Brady went 54/68 for 684 yards and nine touchdowns without throwing a pick. In limited preseason action, the Pats’ signal caller went 26/42 for 307 yards and four touchdowns against one interception, proving that he is back and ready to lead New England to another Super Bowl.
