Both teams looked more like what we expected in Week 4 however – the Jets were absolutely schooled by an average Titans team and the Falcons hung tough against the undefeated Pats only to lose in heartbreaking fashion.

Let’s be honest folks, the New York Jets aren’t very good. Geno Smith has been OK (1,090 yards and four touchdowns through the first four weeks) but his obvious lack of weapons has reared its ugly head early in the season. A young QB needs some support around him – Smith isn`t nearly as fortunate as the Russell Wilsons the Colin Kaepernicks and the Andrew Lucks of the world!

The lack of a running game has made the Jets the worst offense in the league heading into Week 5 and his lack of pass catching threats is almost embarrassing. Bilal Powell has looked good in recent weeks but is FAR FAR from the elite back that NFL teams require to be successful.

New York`s defense is the strength of this team – top 10 against the run and the pass through four weeks. Impressive until you look at the offenses that they have faced so far. Atlanta offers a completely different challenge to Rex Ryan`s defense this week.

Hey Falcons fans – are you pushing the panic button yet? A 1-3 start is certainly difficult to overcome but this team is built for success and should rebound and contend this year – SHOULD! Don`t blame Matt Ryan and the passing game though (although Ryan has been catching a lot of flack). Ryan has passed for 1,330 yards and eight touchdowns this season; Julio Jones leads all receivers with 33 catches for 481 yards and two touchdowns while Tony Gonzalez has 242 yards and three touchdowns. The running game, absent Steven Jackson since Week 1 has been an issue for the Falcons – something they have been unable to overcome so far this young season. Atlanta enters with the league`s 23rd ranked running game and will definitely improve when Steven Jackson returns to the fold. Jacquizz Rodgers and Jason Snelling are nice players but not the elite guy characteristic of elite teams.

How about Atlanta`s defense? They haven`t been that good so far this season. The good news is that they likely won`t have to be that good against the Jets! Also Asante Samuel could return from injury this week to a pass D that is giving up over 300 yards per game.

This team can`t seem to generate any pressure up front – it`s a good thing that they have been OK at stopping the run!

Betting Prediction

:

A few trends to consider:

• Over is 9-4 in NYJ last 13 games in October.
• Five of past six meetings played UNDER the total

I really feel sorry for the Jets in this one – the Falcons are an upset bunch! Look for the Falcons to come out with all guns blazing and to never let up in this game. New York’s only real threat – Bilal Powell plays right into the only strength of Atlanta’s defense – if the Falcons take New York’s running game they are dead in the water.

This game won’t be close – the Falcons prove why they cannot be dismissed as a contender with a thrashing of a Jets team that is looking more and more like the Jets each and every week!
