The NFL schedule makers can’t predict the future and if they could they likely wouldn’t have two teams with a combined 1 win on the season battling on Monday Night Football. That’s why they play the games (I hate that saying!!!).

The 0-6 New York Giants, off 10 gays rest and a loss to the Chicago Bears welcome the 1-4 Minnesota Vikings Monday with seemingly little hope on the horizon – Eli Manning is having a historically poor start to the season and the Viking will turn to their third franchise QB of the season when Josh Freeman makes his Vikings debut. Although there isn’t a ton to play for Monday night, there is plenty of intrigue ahead of this showdown.

Ugh! So long Christian Ponder and thanks for starting a couple games Matt Cassell. But it’s time to move over and let Josh Freeman have a crack at turning the miserable season around. Remember, Freeman had his chance with a decent roster in Tampa Bay and we all know how that went! Truth be told – his numbers dating back to the last half of last season are bad – he may not be the guy that most thought he’d be heading into this season.

We can’t blame the QBs solely – Greg Jennings is about the only pass catcher worth mentioning (and he is clearly a third tier wideout) and Kyle Rudolph has been a bust – who are the QB supposed to get the ball to?

We have to look at the coaching in Minnesota as well. When you have a guy like Adrian Peterson, there is no excuse for poor offensive play. The passing game just has to be a compliment to Mr. Peterson and the coaches have not found a way as of yet to get this accomplished.

Minnesota’s defense ranks 31st overall – they have been brutal and unable to slow average offenses all season long. They are 30th against the pass and 30th against the run. They lost their leading tackler Harrison Smith and now comes word that their only real talented linebacker Desmond Bishop is out for the year. Not good for you Vikings fans! [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The Giants’ faithful has pointed toward the lack of a decent running game for their 0-6 start. How do you explain their loss last week against Chicago then? Brandon Jacobs – ya Brandon Jacobs rumbled for 106 yards in the loss. The offensive line has been… offensive and Eli Manning has thrown an almost unbelievable 15 interceptions – that’s why the Giants are losing! And then there’s the defense!

New York’s defense has been absolutely brutal this year – no matter how much they have scored it hasn’t been enough! No team has allowed more points through six weeks than the New York Giants. The Bears scored 27 points against them last week – the first time all season a team didn’t score 30 on the G-Men. Their pass rush has evaporated – they have a league worst five sacks on the year – unbelievable.

Monday Night Football Betting Prediction

:

A few trends to consider:

• Over is 7-1 in MIN last 8 Mon. games.
• Over is 13-6 in MIN last 19 games in October.
• Over is 9-3 in NYG last 12 games in October.
• NYG are 3-8 ATS vs. a team with a losing record.
• Road team is 7-1 ATS in their last 8 meetings.

Check this out – The Vikings are 1-11 in their last 12 primetime games and have been outscored 358-182 in those games. I think the trend continues Monday – the Vikings are simply a one trick pony. Stop Adrian Peterson and win the game. Eli Manning, Victor Cruz, Hakeem Nicks and Ruben Randle vs. Josh Freeman in his first start as a Viking, Greg Jennings, Jerome Simpson and Kyle Rudolph. Who do you like? Thought so!

Pick: New York Giants -3
