Football season is finally upon us as Week 1 approaches. This might not be real football just yet, but we are getting closer.

Optimism is eternal as we get set for the first preseason games of 2015.

Miami

The Miami Dolphins get their first chance in Week 1 of the preseason to prove that their offseason moves are going to pay off. However, as with most preseason games, we’ll likely get a better look at what the backups have to offer in this one.

Rishard Matthews and Jarvis Landry will likely get to see more action against the Bears than they will early in the regular season, and tight ends Dion Sims and Arthur Lynch fall into that category as well. This team also knows pretty well what it has in its starting quarterback, so second- and third-stringers will likely take the majority of the snaps.

Defensively, rookie Jordan Philips will likely show what he has to offer behind Ndamukong Suh. Suh was the team’s biggest addition in free agency this summer, which means it’s crucial they keep him healthy despite also integrating him into the defensive system.

Getting Phillips as much time in the preseason as possible is going to be important because as much as Miami wants to see Suh in the lineup, we know from his days in Motor City that he’s susceptible to missing time.

Chicago

Quarterback Jay Cutler, who hasn’t exactly been a model of consistency, is about to begin a new journey with the Bears, but a new journey he’s familiar with. The journey of learning to play under a new coordinator.

The problem is that this team doesn’t really have much to offer behind its franchise fixture. That’s why you can expect to see plenty of reps at backup quarterback this preseason. Not only do the Bears need to keep its one true QB healthy, but it also needs to know where it can turn if the team decides at some point it’s ready to cut ties with Cutler.

One good sign for Cutler is that the team has added Kevin White to the lineup, who will be another source of offensive production.

This team will also be looking to see what it has going for it on defense, as a new system will be put in place — a system that will look to work out the kinks early in the preseason.

NFL Football Betting Trends:

  • Dolphins are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
  • Bears are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 Thursday games.
  • Under is 36-17 in Dolphins last 53 road games.
  • Under is 5-1 in Bears last 6 home games.

4* NFL Betting Pick: Miami +1

Miami has all the tools necessary to be an incredibly improved team this season. We won’t know during Week 1 if they’re going to be a sleeper or not this season, but we should see them come out of the gates strong while Chicago looks to learn new systems.

NFL Score Prediction:  Miami 20 – Chicago 10

Pre-season football is truly gambling unless you are a real pro at it.  I would just enjoy this one from afar and use it as a study aide.
