St. Louis Rams vs. San Francisco 49ers Preview

On the season the Rams are 2-5 ATS and they have an O/U record of 4-3 and the 49ers are 4-3 ATS and they have an O/U record of 3-4.

This season the 49ers are 2-1 at home and the Rams are 1-2 on the road.

In their last games the 49ers lost to the Denver Broncos 42-17 and the Rams lost to the Kansas City Chiefs 34-7.

This season many though the NFC West would be another fight again between the 49ers and Seahawks for the NFC West crown. However, both those teams may have to get a Wild Card to make the playoffs since the Arizona Cardinals are 6-1 with the 49ers and Seahawks at 4-3.

Earlier this season in St. Louis the 49ers beat the Rams 31-17.

The 49ers are coming off a bye and while they should be rested they were embarrassed in their last game losing by 25 points to the Denver Broncos. While they still rank in the top 10 in the league in both pass and run defense they gave up 419 total yards in their loss to Denver.

The Rams did not build on their shocking win over the Seahawks getting trounced in their last game. They are in the basement of the division and are big double-digit road underdogs this Sunday facing the 49ers.

Colin Kaepernick has the weapons at his disposal in the passing game and while he passed for 263 yards in the loss to the Broncos he only had 1 TD and was picked off once. What was even more alarming is that the solid San Francisco offensive line gave up 6 sacks. However, that may not be a problem in this game, as the Rams rank dead last in the NFL with only 6 sacks on the season. Kaepernick had 343 passing yards with 3 TD and 0 INT and was not sacked once in the earlier match up with the Rams this season.

Frank Gore has really struggled in the last few games and while the Rams rank 2nd to last in the league in run defense Gore only had 38 yards on 16 carriers in the earlier match up. St. Louis gave up 143 rushing yards in their loss to the Chiefs in their last game.

Austin Davis has had some good games this season, but the Chiefs loss was not one of them being sacked 7 times and only passing for 160 yards. He had a decent game in the loss to the 49ers this season, but in that game he was sacked 5 times. The Rams’ offensive line must play better in this game and keep Davis off his butt.

The Rams only rushed for 93 yards against the 49ers at home this season and they only had 84 yards on the ground against the Chiefs. Leading rusher Zac Stacy was shut down in the game against the Chiefs and he only had 17 yards against San Francisco earlier in the season.
