San Diego Chargers vs. Oakland Raiders Preview

On the season the Chargers are 5-0 ATS and they have an O/U record of 2-3 and the Raiders are 2-2 ATS and they have an Under record of 2-3.

This season the Raiders are 0-2 at home and the Chargers are 1-1 on the road.

In their last games the Chargers beat the New York Jets 31-0 and the Raiders lost to the Miami Dolphins 38-14.

The Raiders are one of only 2 winless teams and the one thing they have going for them is that they are coming off a bye and will be rested for this game. Yeah, that is about it, as their offense has struggled, big time, their run D is ranked 2nd to last in the NFL, and former players are even taking shots at them.

While the Raiders are a mess the Chargers have won 4 straight and they are in first place in the AFC West. Phillip Rivers is having another solid season, but one of the main reasons they are winning is their defense, which ranks 2nd against the pass and 9th against the run.

Derek Carr should be available to go in this game, but he has had a far from impressive rookie season so far. He has failed to pass for over 175 yards in his last 2 games and he only has 4 TD and has 4 picks. It dies not help that he does not have a good WR corps and he also is playing behind a struggling offensive line.

Oakland had high hopes this season with their run game with Darren McFadden, who only has 151 rushing yards, and Maurice Jones-Drew, who has 12 yards on 11 carries.

Overall, the Raiders rank dead last in the league in rushing yards per game and if they cannot run the ball in this game, facing a great SD run defense, than Carr will have to do it all and that is a lot to ask a rookie with not many legit weapons.

Rivers has been playing great in the Chargers’ 4-game winning streak where he has 11 TD and only 1 INT. It helps to have 2 solid receivers in Eddie Royal and Keenan Allen and a great TE in Antonio Gates, who has proved he has a lot left in his tank.

One bright spot for the Raiders has been their pass defense, which ranks a respectable 4th in the league.

The Bolts are streaking, but Rivers has had to carry the offense with the run game out of sync without the injured Ryan Mathews. Still he Raiders and their 31st ranked run defense has been shredded all season and has given up a ton of big runs.

Cappers NFL Free 4* Pick

Not a tough call in this one, as with all that is going on for both teams I have to take the Chargers to win and cover.
