Green Bay Packers vs. Detroit Lions Preview

On the season the Packers are 0-1-1 ATS and have an Over/Under record of 2-0 and the Lions are 1-1 ATS with an Over/Under record of 1-1.

This season the Lions are 1-0 at home and the Packers are 0-1 on the road.

In their last games the Lions lost badly to the Carolina Panthers 24-7 and the Packers beat the New York Jets 31-24.

Every team in the NFC North is sitting at 1-1, so I guess you could say first place is up for grabs in this division rivalry game. The Lions are a slight 2-point betting favorite at home where they beat the Packers last season. However, in that game a certain Green Bay QB in Aaron Rodgers did not play and he is pretty good.

Rodgers was the main reason that Green Bay got their first win of the season last week, as he passed for 346 yards with 3 TD and 0 INT. He has a great WR especially with Jordy Nelson, who had over 200 receiving yards in the win over the Jets. The Lions do have the league’s 9th ranked pass D, but that stat may be a little misleading.

They faced a struggling Eli Manning in the first game and then Cam Newton last week in the loss, who is not known for his arm.

Where the hell is Eddie Lacy and the Packers run game? The rookie had a great year last season with over 1,000 rushing yards, but so far this season he only has a grand total of 77 yards averaging 3.1 yards per carry after 2 games.

If he can help Rodgers out and gain some yards on the ground the Packers will be much tougher to beat.

Matthew Stafford nearly had 300 passing yards in the loss to the Panthers, but only had 1 TD and was picked off 1 time. He has the weapons mainly stud WR Calvin Johnson and he has to avoid the INT and play well for the Lions to win.

Like the Packers the Lions have struggled to run the ball. Joique Bell is the lead rusher with 85 yards on 3.5 yards per carry and Reggie Bus has been a no show so far on the season with 41 yards on 2.7 yards per carry. At least they will be facing a Green Bay run defense that after 2 weeks ranks 2nd to last in the NFL.

NFL Week 3 Betting Trends

* Green Bay is 3-8-1 ATS in their last 12 games overall.
* Detroit is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 home games.
* Green Bay is 6-2 ATS in their last 8 meetings in Detroit.
* Green Bay is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 meetings against the Lions overall.
* In the last 7 games between these 2 teams the total has gone Under 5 times.

Cappers NFL 4* Free Pick

Each team has issues on both sides of the ball, but I have to go with the Packers in this division match up. Rodgers will have another solid game and Lacy will play well for the first time this season and Green Bay will not only cover the spread, but will win as well.
