Pro Football Gambling – Colts vs Patriots

This AFC match up should have been a sweet one with a Peyton Manning vs. Tom Brady battle, but with Manning out the winless Colts are HUGE underdogs heading to New England.

Indianapolis Colts vs. New England Patriots Preview

The Patriots (8-3) have won 3 in a row and are in first place in the AFC East and the only good news for the Colts is they look to get QB Andrew Luck with the first pick in the next draft.

NFL lines have the Pats as big 20-point favorites in this game with a total of 47.5.

In their last games the Colts lost to the Carolina Panthers 27-19 and the Patriots beat the Philadelphia Eagles 38-20.

The Colts will turn to QB Dan Orlovsky since Curtis Painter has been far from stellar this season. Indy only ranks 28th in passing yards per game, but the new starter under center and the WR combo of Pierre Garcon and Reggie Wayne may have good games facing a Patriots’ pass defense that ranks dead last in the league. I wouldn’t count on it though.

Orlovsky may have to carry the offense for the Colts to have any chance to pull off the major upset, but that is a lot to ask for a guy who has a grant total of 14 pass completions on the season and is making his first start since 2008. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

RB Donald Brown had a good game against the Panthers last week, but he will be facing a legit Patriots’ run defense, which ranks 12th in the league. New England played great run defense last week holding the Eagles, who have the league’s 2nd ranked rushing offense, to only 73 yards on the ground.

Tom Brady has a slew of solid WR’s and well as a couple of great TE’s and he may have a field day facing a Colts’ pass defense that only ranks 18th in the league. On top of that Brady will have time in the pocket, which is never a good thing for opponents, since the Indy pass rush has the 3rd fewest sacks in the league.

The Colts have also has troubles defending the run this season so BenJarvus Green-Ellis may break out in the mini-slump he has been in. Overall the Colts rank 31st in the league defending the run giving up an average of over 150 rushing yards per game.

Betting Trends

The Colts are 2-9 ATS and have an O/U record of 6-5 and the Patriots are 7-4 ATS and have an O/U record of 6-5.
The Colts are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games, 0-7 ATS in their last 7 games, and have an Under record of 4-0 in their last 4 games. ‘
The Patriots are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games against teams with a losing record, 3-13 ATS in their last 16 games as a home favorite of 10.5 points or more, and have an Over record of 11-4 in their last 15 home games.

Jason’s Pick: Really? No Manning and an Indy QB, who has not started since 2008? Even giving 20 points take the Pats and take the Over as well, as New England may score 48 points themselves.
