Week 4 Washington Redskins vs St. Louis Rams NFL Free Pick – Odds – Handicapping Preview

The St. Louis Rams will be looking for their first win of the season on Sunday when they take on a Washington Redskins team that fought hard but came out on the losing end on Monday night. While Washington continues to surprise in the NFC, St. Louis continues to disappoint.

The Washington Redskins should have beaten the Dallas Cowboys on Monday night – it would have taken them to 3-0 and would have given them a lead in the tough NFC East. The Skins have looked good offensively and defensively all season and will be a handful to the Rams on Sunday.

The Redskins, under Rex Grossman have been surprisingly effective and shockingly efficient. So far, Grossman has passed for 846 yards, 5 touchdowns and three interceptions and has been able to find Tight End Fred Davis and Wide Receiver Santana Moss often and effectively. Grossman has also benefitted from a decent running game – Tim Hightower although having an off game in Dallas (65 yards) has been good along with his reliever Roy Helu who has averaged 5.7 yards per carry on the few touches that he has received.

The St. Louis Rams were supposed to have taken a gigantic leap forward this year but unfortunately have taken a step back. They have lost their first three games so far culminating with a shellacking at the hands of Baltimore last week. The offense is banged up and the defense has been miserable in the three games that they have played.

Sam Bradford has hit on just 50.9% of his passes this season, has just 685 yards passing, two touchdowns and one interception. He has been missing Danny Amendola for virtually the whole season but that is little consolation to the Rams fans that expected big things from the club this season. Steven Jackson say out last week’s game and could return to a lineup that will welcome him with open arms. His replacement Carnell Williams has been OK but is also dealing with his own injury issues. There are significant differences in how these offenses are operating but there is an even greatest difference in how these defenses stack up. Washington appears on the cusp of returning to one of the top defenses in the NFL while the Rams simply are brutal. Washington has caused 6 fumbles and three interceptions while giving up just 97.7 yards on the ground. St. Louis got lit up last week to the tune up 533 yards allowed and is last in the league against the run (174.7 yards per game allowed).

Betting Prediction: The Washington Redskins are 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall and are 4-1 ATS in their last five on the road. However, the Skins are 0-4 ATS in their last four games against the Rams. The St. Louis Rams are 0-4 ATS in their last four games overall and are just 1-4 ATS in their last five games against NFC foes.

The St. Louis Rams are completely devoid of playmakers on both sides of the ball. The return of Steven Jackson to the lineup should help but not enough. With a sputtering offense and a defense that will not be able to stop Tim Hightower, look for the Redskins to literally run away with this game.

Pick: Washington Redskins -1 ½
