The youngest team in the NFL will try to back up their loudmouth coach on Sunday when they try to prove that they are the best team in the NFC when they travel to Atlanta to take on a legitimate contender for the NFC title, the Atlanta Falcons. Both teams are ties for the NFC South lead, but only one will be left standing at the top of the heap on Sunday evening.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have won their share of games and are worthy of their 5-2 record. But a closer look at their opposition so far this year and at the way that they have been winning games reveals a different story about the leaders of the pack.

The Bucs have beaten Cleveland, Carolina, Cincinnati, St. Louis and Arizona so far with an average margin of victory of just five points. Four of their five wins have come by three or fewer points. They have lost to Pittsburgh and New Orleans by a combined score of 69-19!

Not to take anything away from Josh Freeman, Mike Williams and budding star LaGarrette Blount, but against elite competition, they have simply crumbled.

The Atlanta Falcons have been getting it done with a well balanced offense. Matt Ryan has led the falcons to the 11th ranked passing offense, thanks to consistent and unheralded superstar, Roddy White and because the stabilizing force of veteran Tight End Tony Gonzalez. The running game, anchored by Michael Turner and Jason Snelling is ranked 5th in the NFL as well.

The run defense has been good for Atlanta but the pass defense has been lit up in recent games by Carson Palmer and Kevin Kolb. The pass defense is ranked 27th in the league at present, something that Josh Freeman should be able to exploit.

Betting Prediction:

Tampa Bay is 5-2 S/U in their last seven games but is just 8-17 S/U in their last 25 games overall. They are 5-0 S/U in their last five games on the road but are just 2-4 S/U in their last six meetings with Atlanta.

Atlanta is 5-1 S/U in their last six games and is 12-2 S/U at home in their last 14. They are 4-2 S/U in their last six games versus Tampa Bay but are just 1-5 ATS in those games.

The trends favor the Under in this game but would stay away from it. Both teams have their defensive deficiencies. For the Bucs, it is their 29th ranked run defense – Michael Turner will be huge in this game. For the Falcons, it is their 27th ranked pass defense.

The Falcons re the better team and they will be able to shut Raheem Morris’s mouth a bit on Sunday. Don’t be afraid of the eight point spread in this one – Atlanta wants to destroy the Bucs.

Betting Pick: Atlanta Falcons -8
