A matchup between two of the top passing offenses is on tap this Sunday – I can’t wait! For the second week in a row, football fans will be treated to a battle of elite offenses – this week Peyton Manning battles Philip Rivers.

The San Diego Chargers have followed their mid-season recipe book. They have waited a little longer than usual to get going, but three straight wins has them within 1 game of first place in the AFC West.

Philip Rivers is the league MVP so far this season – hands down. Some good news out of San Diego comes on the heels of two months of bad – Vincent Jackson is ready to return from his holdout and Antonio Gates may suit up this weekend as well. These two names will bolster an already #1 ranked NFL passing game (306.5 yards per game).

The 17th ranked running game may have found a remedy for their sluggish existence. Mike Tolbert has officially taken the reigns and has shown that he is up to the challenge. He was a beast on Monday night!

Defensively, the Chargers still have the #1 ranked pass defense and the #3 ranked run defense. This week, they get to put their money where their rank is.

The Indianapolis Colts did their best to steal a win last week but ultimately turned the game over to the New England Patriots. At 6-4 this is a crucial game for the Colts –  they are surprisingly in a dog fight with the Jacksonville Jaguars for top spot in the AFC South.

Peyton Manning has been…well…Peyton Manning. Despite injuries to Austin Collie and Dallas Clark, Manning has found a way to maintain Indy’s #2 passing offense. New weapons have emerged and it looks like you or I could flourish with Manning throwing us the ball!

The running game has been a disappointment again. They too have been plagued by injuries and have been forced to rely on Donald Brown and Javarris James. The good news is that Joseph Addai and Austin Collie are practicing with the hops of returning this week.

On defense, the Colts have been banged up as well. Their 30th ranked run defense (136.7 yards per game) will get a boost this week with the impending return of injured stars Clint Sessions and Gary Brackett. The Colts will certainly need all hands on deck in order to contain the San Diego offense.

Betting Prediction:

The San Diego Chargers are 16-6 SU in their last 22 games but are just 1-4 SU and ATS in their last five on the road. They are 10-3 SU in their last 13 games versus the Colts and are 5-1 ATS in their last six trips to Indianapolis.

The Indianapolis Colts are 18-7 SU in their last 25 games overall and are 19-2 SU in their last 21 at home. They are 4-1-1 ATS in their last six games and 5-2 ATS in their last seven home games. The Colts are just 1-4 SU in their last five versus San Diego and 1-5 ATS in their last six versus the Chargers. Indianapolis is a disappointing 3-10 SU in their last 13 at home versus the Chargers and 1-11 ATS in their last 12 at home against the Bolts.

This game has all the makings of a classic. I just don`t see the Indianapolis Colts falling to five losses on the season. The San Diego Chargers are in peak form at the moment but have been less than inspiring on the road. With a host of Colts returning from injury this week, expect the Indianapolis “A Game“ at home.

Betting Pick: Indianapolis Colts -3
