The Houston Texans are getting absolutely no love from the NFL Oddsmakers! The Eagles are supposed to run away with this game but a couple of factors could slow them down.

The Houston Texans got their most complete team effort, albeit against a crumbling Tennessee team that was forced to start their third string quarterback. Still, Arian Foster, who leads the NFL in rushing (1147 yards) and touchdowns (12) along with arguably the best wide receiver in the game, Andre Johnson, should be enough to give the Eagles quite a game on National television.

Houston currently has the 15 best passing offense (235.18 yards per game) and the league’s 7th ranked running game (132.55 yards per game). They are as balanced as they ever have been and with a little help from their defense, they could be in the thick of the AFC South – a division that they are still not out of despite it all.

If last week was any indication of what the Houston defense can be, then there is certainly reason for optimism. The 8th ranked run defense held the most dynamic back in the NFL (Chris Johnson) to just five yards on seven carries. The 31st ranked pass defense gave up just over 120 yards against the Titans for a combined yardage allowed of 162. Keep in mind however that this unit gave up at least 29 points in the four games prior to Week 12.

The Philadelphia Eagles lost last week but they still managed to hang 26 points on a Chicago defense that had given up an average of just 14 points per game this season. Michael Vick threw his first interception of the season but still passed for over 300 yards. On the season, he has 13 passing touchdowns and 5 rushing scores and has a league high 106 passer rating! The Eagles have scored at least 26 points in every game that Vick has started this season.

The Eagles got away from the run game last week and that really hurt them on two fronts. The 3rd ranked rushing attack (146.64 yards per game) stalled, gained few yards while allowing the Bears to key on Mike Vick and generate pressure that would not have been afforded them if a strong running game was keeping the Bears honest.

The Eagles defense really missed Asante Samuel on Sunday – they gave up four touchdown passes to Jay Cutler of all people! Samuel will be crucial in this game to help slow down Andre Johnson. The Eagles also uncharacteristically gave up 131 yards to the Bears 20th ranked rushing offense. Philadelphia’s 11th ranked run defense better be sharp – Arian Foster is coming to play.

Betting Prediction:

Houston was impressive last week but the Philadelphia Eagles are a totally different type of challenge. Expect a high scoring game in this one – both offenses should have success. Don’t let Houston’s shut out of the Titans fool you – they are still a horrendous defense. Vick, McCoy, Jackson, Maclin and Celek will have a fun night. The Eagles should win this game but I like the Texans offense to do enough to keep this game close.

Betting Pick: Houston Texans +8.5 and the Over
