Handicapping 2014 AFC Conference Win Totals Lines & Futures

2014 NFL Over/Under Betting?

CG Technologies in Las Vegas is first to market with NFL win totals. There are still some free agents remaining on the board, but the majority of the big names have found new homes, and it’s safe to beginning looking for value in these numbers.

Here are eight win totals from the AFC worthy of a closer look:

Baltimore Ravens (8.5)

The team walked a tough road last season as the defending Super Bowl champions, compiling an 8-8 record. They’ll enter this season with a softer schedule, but with Joe Flacco hoarding all the team’s cash, there isn’t much in the way of offensive talent beyond him. With a possible suspension looming for Ray Rice, the team’s offense could be due for an even further regression.

The play: Under

Cleveland Browns (6.5)

The time for calling the Browns a dark horse has probably passed. That pipe dream seems to be long gone. The team enters this season with Josh Gordon, Jordan Cameron, and a bunch of scrubs on offense. The team’s defense is greatly underrated, but the team will be dealing with another new group of coaches. There will be some growing pains under Mike Pettine.

The play: Under

Denver Broncos (11)

The Broncos are as close to a super team as we’re going to see in the modern NFL. The team really bolstered its defense through free agency, and it’s scary to think how good this team can be with some extra stops. Peyton Manning has been ultra-consistent throughout his career, so it’s too early to be thinking about a regression from the offense, even with the loss of Knowshon Moreno.

The play: Over

Houston Texans (8.5)

The Texans took a major step backward last year. The team is going to bolster its roster with the top pick, but working in a new quarterback will take a while, and it feels like there are bigger changes needed on defense than one pick can solve.

The play: Under

Kansas City Chiefs (8)

There was an element of luck to what the Chiefs were able to accomplish a year ago, but don’t write them off entirely this season. The team is still very talented, particularly on the defensive side of the football. Jamaal Charles is lighting up the league in his prime years, and a more aggressive passing attack should have the team right back to double-digit wins.

The play: Over

New England Patriots (10)

The Patriots were decimated by injuries a year ago, yet still managed to win 12 games. The AFC East certainly didn’t get any better in the offseason, so the team should march through its conference schedule. The addition of Darrelle Revis to Bill Belichick’s already impressive defensive system could yield some impressive results. Additionally, more should be expected from Danny Amendola in year two in Foxborough.

The play: Over

New York Jets (6.5)

The Jets were a popular over bet a year ago and cashed in, yet find themselves tagged with a 6.5 again this year. The team’s quarterback situation looks strong entering this season, Eric Decker is in town as the new top receiver, and the ground game will likely to be in a better position at the start of the season than they were a year ago. As for the defense, Rex Ryan will take care of that.

The play: Under

Tennessee Titans (6.5)

That this team couldn’t make things work with Chris Johnson is mind-blowing. Inconsistent as he may have been, his big plays were the difference between a rather ordinary offense having a pedestrian day, or remaining competitive. Kenny Britt was allowed to find a new address as well. There aren’t many organizations that would just let that much talent walk out the door. They’ll struggle to find offense without them, even with Jake Locker returning. As for the defense, there was a lot of cherry-picking going on with regards to stats on the team’s pass defense. Expect a regression.

The play: Under

The Rest

Buffalo Bills (6.5)
Cincinnati Bengals (9)
Indianapolis Colts (9)
Jacksonville Jaguars (4.5)
Miami Dolphins (7.5)
Oakland Raiders (5)
Pittsburgh Steelers (9)
San Diego Chargers (8)
