The Giants may be undefeated in the preseason, but things aren’t as they seem. Last week the G-Men put up 27 points in the 4th quarter to beat the Colts (27-26). It was a game that they should have lost.

So far the biggest story this preseason for the Giants has been the poor play from the starters. Part of the problem is the new West Coast offense, which players have said is taking longer to learn than expected.

Eli Manning and the starters on offense played the 1H (Four Drives) against Indy. Manning completed 1/7 pass attempts for 6 yards. Victor Cruz still doesn’t have a reception during the preseason either.

Curtis Painter and Ryan Nassib both played well and are still fighting for the back-up QB job. The G-Men rushed the football a lot against the Colts (29 Carries) and they averaged 2.9 YPC.

Defensively the Giants struggled early in the game, as they allowed 10 points in the 1Q and in the 2Q. The 2H was better, but that was against 2nd/3rd string players. Overall the defense looks good though.

In three preseason games the G-Men have allowed 18.3 PPG, which even by preseason standards isn’t too bad at all. The Jets defense has been strong as well, as they’ve allowed 15 PPG through two games.

Last week the Jets beat the Bengals (25-17) and the defense held Cincy to under 300 yards. Andy Dalton went 8/8 for 144 yards and 1 TD, which is a cause of concern for the Jets secondary.

Chris Johnson rushed for 63 yards on 10 carries and Geno Smith completed 10/13 passes for 98 yards, but he also tossed an INT. Smith has looked good in preseason, but he has to avoid the turnovers.

The Jets have a lot of young WR’s and they’ll need one or two of them to break out this season. I thought Greg Salas and TE Jace Amaro played well against Indy and will be looking for more from them.

Giants vs Jets Preseason Picks

Both teams came out slow last week, but ended up winning the game. This rivalry is always fierce and since these two teams don’t meet often in the regular season this game always has tension.

I expect to see more of the starters in this game, as both coaches will want to win and we’re nearing the end of the preseason. I like what I’ve seen from the Jets starters compared to the G-Men.

Defensively, the Jets are the better team as well. Rex Ryan will have his team ready for this game and I expect them to win a close low scoring game. At a PK spread the Jets are the best bet.

Bet on the New York Jets PK (-110)
