Buccaneers 2012-2013 NFL Futures Lines & Predictions

The Bucs were a mess last season and one of the main reasons they were 4-12 is that production of QB Josh Freeman. After the 2010 season he established himself as a future star with 25 TD and only 6 INT, but last season he only had 16 TD and a whopping 22 INT.

LeGarrette Blount only rushed for 781 yards after rushing for over 1,000 yards in 2010 and besides their problems on offense the Bucs ranked 21st in pass defense and dead last in run defense.

Freeman looked terrible last season, especially in the pocket, but there is some hope this season since they signed WR Vincent Jackson. He signed with the Bucs for a ton of money and while he is a legit WR he has never had more than 70 catches and played in the pass-happy offense in San Diego. Mike Williams led the Bucs in receiving yards last season, but will he come to camp in shape and will he be motivated? Big questions. TE Kellen Winslow Jr. led the Bucs in catches last season, but he and all his problems are gone.

RB Doug Martin was one of the Bucs 2 first round picks and he is a great pass catching RB that will be utilized often this season. Still, Blunt is the featured back and will have to rebound from a sub-par 2011 season. Freeman was sacked way too much last season and that offensive line got a big boost with the free agent signing of Carl Nicks, who may be the best G in the league. Still, the line is an issue and RT is a major question mark with Jeremy Trueblood, who was terrible last season.

The defense was terrible last season for the Bucs and while they drafted S Mark Barron and signed free agent Eric Wright they still have issues. Wright has not even practiced with the first team in the Tampa camp because of illness and on top of that he struggles in coverage. FS Ronde Barber is 37 years old and will be moving to FS, but does he have any gas left in his tank?  [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The Bucs were dead last in the NFL last season with only 23 sacks, but there is hope. DT Gerald McCoy was playing great until he got injured and he only played in 6 games. He will be back and be counted on to play well. 2011 first round pick Adrian Clayborn had 7.5 sacks and he is a young star in the making. DE Michael Bennett also played pretty well and was solid against the run. The Bucs spent their 2nd and 5th round pick taking the LB’s of Lavonte David and Mason Foster and both of these 2 may see a lot of playing time this season.

The Bucs have good special teams even though they did not score a special team’s TD last season. Tampa used to be a tough place to play, but since 2009 they have been a sub .500 team at home including going 3-5 last season. Their schedule this season is a tough one having to face the teams from the NFC East and AFC West, but their key games have to be facing the Saints, Falcons, and up and coming Panthers in their division.

I think the Bucs will struggle again this season and while they have some winnable games they will finish up at 5-11.
