Gambling on NFL Futures?
There’s still plenty of time between now and the first game of the upcoming NFL season, but the alert bettor is always looking ahead, and with lines available for Week 1, attempting to find value in those lines is something we can do now.
Odds to Win from sportsbook.ag
The Seattle Seahawks and Green Bay Packers kick things off on Thursday. The Packers’ last trip to Seattle didn’t end well. After a game in which the team struggled to move the ball in the noise the Seahawks’ fan created, victory was stolen away from them by the replacement officials.
The Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans meet at the Georgia Dome on Sunday with a total of 52. Feels a little high given the numbers they’ve played to in the past. Oddsmakers were also quick to forget about the Falcons’ struggles a year ago, favoring them by a point and a half.
Eagles vs. Jags
The Philadelphia Eagles are installed as 11-point favorites – the highest spread of the week – with a total of 51.5 for the game. The Eagles really closed last season strong, while the Jaguars did little to re-tool after another poor season.

Texans vs. Redskins
The Houston Texans host the Washington Redskins as 2.5-point favorites. Both teams found themselves in the bottom five of the league last season, just a year removed from playoff appearances.

Pats vs. Fins
The New England Patriots give away 3.5-points to the Miami Dolphins in Florida in their opener. This game could mean big things in the AFC East, as this could be the Dolphins’ best – and only – opportunity to hold the division lead.
49ers vs. Cowboys
The San Francisco 49ers visit the Dallas Cowboys as four-point favorites. The 49ers have opened the season with victories over Aaron Rodgers in consecutive seasons, meaning Tony Romo faces a tall order.
Broncos vs. Colts
The Denver Broncos are 6.5-point favorites against the Indianapolis Colts, with a total of 55 installed for the game – the highest total of the week. The Broncos took care of business in Indianapolis a year ago, and Peyton Manning will surely look to make a statement against his former team once again.
The Detroit Lions host the New York Giants as four-point favorites, and the Arizona Cardinals host the San Diego Chargers as 3.5-point favorites in the Monday night doubleheader.
Upon first glance at these odds, those big 50-plus totals really stand out. Offenses usually take a couple weeks to get their legs under them.
The Eagles in particular needed a few weeks to figure things out a year ago, and Gus Bradley deserves a little more respect than that.
The Redskins expect a healthy Robert Griffin III back by Week 1, while the Texans are dealing with issues at quarterback and wide receiver, and there’s no telling what their defense will look like this season, making the Texans an underwhelming favorite.
