Despite being without head coach John Fox for perhaps the rest of the season after undergoing heart surgery, the Broncos will look to grab a much-needed win under the direction of interim coach Jack Del Rio, before taking on AFC West-leaders the Kansas City Chiefs next week.

The Broncos (7-1) offense has been fueled primarily by veteran quarterback Peyton Manning, who has thrown for just under 3,000 yards and 29 touchdown this season.

Manning, who threw for 354 yards and four touchdowns, along with a bevy of receivers including Andre Caldwell  and Wes Welker, who leads the team with 50 catches and nine TD catches, rolled over Washington 45-21 last time out, in a game where the Broncos scored 31 fourth-quarter points.

The defense also did its job containing Robert Griffin III, who struggled through a miserable afternoon before hurting his left knee, finishing 15-of-30 for just 132 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.

The Chargers (4-4) meanwhile, are still in the race for a wild card berth despite last week’s overtime loss to the Redskins on the road. It was San Diego’s  third defeat in the final seconds of regulation or OT this year.

Quarterback Philip Rivers leads a San Diego offense that has scored 192 points (24 PPG), ranking 16th in the NFL.

Rivers has bounced back nicely following a pair a pair of turnover-riddled seasons, throwing for 17 TDs against seven interceptions – third best in the league.

The Chargers offense has also gotten a boost from running back Ryan Mathews, who has had back-to-back 100-yard games, but he was limited to 34 on seven carries at Washington. Nevertheless, Mathews has rushed for 100 yards three times against Denver, his most against any opponent.

Defensively, the Chargers rank 11th in the league, but surrendered 500 total yards to the Redskins.

They rank 27th in the league with 275 passing yards allowed per game, a menacing sign with Manning coming to town.

Matt’s Free Prediction

Denver came from behind at San Diego last season, notching its third a victory in a row over the Chargers, which ignited an 11-game winning streak, including a second win over San Diego at home later in the year.

The Broncos offense will be too much for the Chargers in this one.
