Pittsburgh is coming off an 8-8 finish last season, and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has his work cut out for him as he attempts to lead the Steelers back to the playoffs.

It will not be easy, as the Steelers will be without deep threat Mike Wallace who left for Miami and to leading receiver Heath Miller, who will likely miss the opener due to a knee injury.

That leaves Pittsburgh’s all-time leading passer with Emmanuel Sanders and Antonio Brown, who combined for 110 catches, 1,413 yards and six touchdowns last season.

Rookie Markus Wheaton also figures to see time as Roethlisberger will aim to lead the Steelers tor 11th straight home opener win on Sunday.

The Titans are coming off another disappointing season, where they posted a 6-10 record and missed the playoffs for the fourth straight year. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

And while the team made some made improvements to the offensive line in an effort to help quarterback Jake Locker, the team’s defense hopes to see the most improvement after bringing in former New Orleans defensive coordinator Gregg Williams.

However, the Titan’s success begins and ends with running back Chris Johnson, whose 312 touches in 2012 were his fewest since his rookie season.

Tennessee will hope he can find the rhythm he had to begin 2012, when he ran for 1,243 yards and six touchdowns.

On Sunday, Johnson  will aim for his first 100-yard rushing game in six tries against Pittsburgh, though he rushed for 91 yards on 19 carries in last year’s victory.

Pittsburgh is 2-5-1 against the spread in their last eight games, 1-3-1 against the spread in their last five home games.

Tennessee is 6-13-1 against the spread in their last 20 games and 2-7-1 against the spread in their last 10 road games.

Matt’s Free Prediction

The Steelers have won three straight at home over the Titans and there is no need to think that this matchup will produce any different result, except if you take into consideration that Locker has weapons and protection.

Mix in a great outing from Johnson and this has all the makings of an upset.

Titans 28, Steelers 21.
