The Carolina Panthers host the Pittsburgh Steelers under the lights on Sunday night at Bank of America Stadium in North Carolina. The Panthers have a 2-0 record as they host the football world, while the Steelers are coming off of a terrible performance in Baltimore against the division-rival Ravens.

The Panthers’ defense took a hit this week when the team removed defensive end Greg Hardy from the team’s active roster. Hardy played for the team in Week 1 before being deactivated prior to Week 2’s matchup.

He is one of the handful of NFL players to be tied to a domestic violence incident in recent weeks.

In Week 2 the team did get back quarterback Cam Newton, who sat out the team’s opening 20-14 road win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as he recovered from a rib injury. Newton completed 22-of-34 passes for 281 yards and a score in a 24-7 victory over Detroit.

As for the Panthers’ defense, they looked solid even without Hardy, limiting a strong Lions offense to only seven points, while forcing three turnovers. As a team, the Panthers have recorded seven sacks, good for a tie for fourth most in the league.

As for the Steelers, their heads have been spinning for a week as they recuperate from a 26-6 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger completed 22-of-37 passes for 217 yards and an interception in that one, as the Steelers offense turned the ball over three times.

They did escape a potential disaster as wide receiver Antonio Brown left the game momentarily after a hit to the head forced the veteran to get examined by the team’s medical staff. Brown returned and finished the game, bringing in seven balls for 90 yards.

The Steelers’ struggles stretch further back than their last game as the team has now been outscored 50-9 over the last six quarters, going back to their woeful second half against the Browns in which they allowed Cleveland to fight back from a 27-3 deficit. The team’s defense has been the culprit, allowing 712 yards of offense in those two games.

Free Carolina vs. Pittsburgh Over/Under Pick:

The Panthers’ defense has been a revelation over the team’s last 18 games, but the unit can be exploited through the air and the Steelers have had extra time to put together a game plan to do just that.

[dfads params=’groups=63752&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

On the other side, the Steelers’ run defense has been abysmal, and while the Panthers offense has been woefully inefficient, they should be able to pick up some fair yardage on the ground and get points on their home field.

The over is 5-0 in the Steelers’ last five games in Week 3, and 5-2 in their last seven games overall.
