Week 15: Pittsburgh vs Atlanta Predictions

NFL Week #15 betting action sees the Pittsburgh Steelers taking on the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday December 14 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia. CappersPicks provides free NFL handicapping tips all season long.

Two teams that cannot afford to lose another game hook up on Sunday. This one might not be a division contest but both team should be leaving it all on field.

Pittsburgh

The Steelers are definitely alive in the race for the AFC North after their win against Cincinnati last week.

They are technically still behind the Bengals but the win makes their game against Cincy the final week of the season one to look forward to.

Last week the Steelers showed against what a fantastic weapon they have in RB Leveon Bell. Give Big Ben a decent running game and he can suddenly start looking like one of the best QBs in the game with his knack for making the big plays.

The Steelers pulled away late against the Bengals last week which is forcing me to reconsider just how good they are.  In Roethlisberger and Bell and Antonio Brown they have a pretty good set of triplets so they should be able to move the ball against Atlanta with ease.

Their own defense is not up to their reputational standards but they seem to be able to make the plays necessary to win ball games.

More often than not.

Atlanta

The Falcons lost last week against Green Bay but the way they fought back to make it a game could be an indicator…or it could mean that a Falcons team, that is only in the race in the AFC South because the division is terrible, is spent.

Odds are it is somewhere in the middle. There is no doubt the Falcons have a strong passing attack but the rest of the team is pretty light and I am not sure they have that edge that teams gunning for a spot in the playoffs really need.

They are at home and I a not sure that helps.

The combination of Matt Ryan to Julio Jones is about as lethal as any in the league this season.

Last week the Steelers had a tough time covering A.J. Green and Jones is definitely his equal so the Falcons will press that matchup. However, sooner or later they are going to need somebody else to make a play and that is where the challenge lies for the Falcons.

They lack that depth and don’t even get me started on their defense.

NFL Betting Trends:

  • Steelers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games in December.
  • Steelers are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games after allowing more than 350 total yards in their previous game.
  • Over is 8-1 in Steelers last 9 games after accumulating more than 350 total yards in their previous game.
  • Under is 5-0 in Falcons last 5 games after allowing more than 30 points in their previous game.
  • Falcons are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games when playing on Sunday following a Monday night game.
  • Under is 5-1 in Falcons last 6 games following a S.U. loss.

NFL Betting Prediction:  Steelers -3

Take the Steelers on the road. They probably are the better team but I also think this is a spot to fade Falcons.

4* NFL Score Prediction:  Pittsburgh 31 – Atlanta 24

At the current number this is very good value.
