You’ve got to feel for Washington in this one after a short week of rest following a loss to the reigning champion Seattle Seahawks, they have to travel to the desert to take on another tough NFC West opponent in the Arizona Cardinals.

This is a tough game to pick, as it looks as if a pair of backup QBs will take the field on Sunday in Arizona. Washington will go with Kirk Cousins once more as Robert Griffin III continues to rehab an ankle injury. On the Arizona side, it’s a bit more of a mystery whether Carson Palmer will return from shoulder problems, or if Drew Stanton will recover from a concussion he suffered in Denver or if third stringer Logan Thomas will be under centre.

Cardinals

This game really comes down to who starts at QB for the Cards this week. If Palmer returns to the line up I don’t see any way that Arizona can lose this game. They’re coming off a humbling loss to the Broncos last week, where even with Tom Brady at QB they would’ve been in tough. Arizona had held opponents to 17 or fewer points in their first three games, before Peyton Manning had his say and railed the Cards’ defense for 479 yards, four touchdowns and 41 points.

Look for the Cardinals defense to have a bounce back week on Sunday, as they have performed very well at home and Kirk Cousins has just not been able to get much going for the Skins on offense of late.

It’s almost a case of it being a bit too early to call this game as I think it really comes down to who gets the start at QB. The run game was a non-factor against the Broncos with Andre Ellington managing just 32 yards. Much of that number can be attributed to the fact that Arizona got behind early and had to play catch up with the pass game in a futile attempt to keep pace with Denver’s ability to score.

Redskins

As I stated above, you kind of have to feel for the Redskins. For all intents and purposes they played a solid game on Monday night but just did not have the manpower or talent to beat the Seahawks. The Skins hung in tough in a 27-17 loss where the Seahawks did what they do to so many teams in riding Marshawn Lynch until the opponent breaks.

Washington held Lynch in check quite well, limiting him to just 72 yards on the ground, but he did score the game sealing touchdown on a nine yard pass with just over six minutes left in the game.

On offense Kirk Cousins was much better than his abysmal performance against the Giants in week 4. The QB managed 283 yards through the air on 21 for 36 and tossed two TDs with no interceptions. That’s saying a lot against a defense that can feast on opposing QBs. Receiver DeSean Jackson maintained his rep as a big play receiver and hauled in a TD catch of 60+ yards for the second time in three weeks against the Seahawks.

Week 6 Redskins vs. Cardinals 4* Free Pick

The question marks at QB for Arizona make me very tentative in picking them in this game. The defense was shelled last week and will be looking for a big response this week against an offense that has been held under 20 points in back to back games.

Pick the Cardinals -3.5

With three straight losses this feels like a game where Washington will bust out, but unfortunately they’re just up against a better team who is also coming off a loss and will be hungry.
