The Eagles will be looking to get off to a better start on Sunday – something they haven’t done in either of their first three games while the 49ers will be hoping to play better in the second half where they have been badly outscored this season. It should be an interesting matchup between two probable NFC playoff teams.

Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles have to be feeling good after a thrilling 37-34 win over the Redskins in Week 3.

The Eagles used their patented quick-strike offense last week led by Nick Foles who looks like a Pro-Bowler already. Philadelphia has yet to score less than 30 points in a game – Foles has eclipsed 300 yards passing in every game thus far with multiple TDs in all – he appears to be in complete control as we head into this weekend.

Rookie wideout Jordan Matthews has been a nice surprise, Darren Sproles has been sensational at times and Jeremy Maclin has 296 yards receiving and three TDs already.

Philadelphia was uncharacteristically unable to generate anything on the ground against the Skins last week – LeSean McCoy has just 22 yards rushing last week and has not gone over 80 yards on the ground yet this season.

You’d have to think that this trend will work itself out and that Shady will be a factor in a game sooner than later.

Defense is again the weakness of the Philadelphia Eagles – they surrendered an astounding 511 yards to Kirk Cousins and the Redskins in Week 3 – this unit seems to be regressing rather than improving as we head into Week 4. It appears as though it will be up to the offense again Sunday which doesn’t seem all that bad when Foles is at the helm.

49ers

The San Francisco 49ers just aren’t showing up in the second halves of their games! They have been outscored an astounding 52-3 in their three games after halftime – something that will absolutely have to change if this team hopes to realize their lofty goals.

The 49ers have had their issues on both sides of the ball this season – two weeks ago it was three interceptions by Colin Kaepernick and one fumble – last week it was costly penalties and a couple turnovers again that made the difference against Arizona.

The game plan has been curious to say the least – the Niners have become a throw-first offense. Frank Gore got just six carries in last week’s loss for only 10 yards. When San Francisco is successful it is because of their ability to run the ball and control the clock – something that is not happening at the present time.

The passing game is decent – don’t get me wrong. Vernon Davis is in danger of missing Week 4 but Michael Crabtree, Stevie Johnson and Anquan Boldin are very talented.

That said the Niners have to run the ball to be effective – they look a tad too one-dimensional – shockingly.

San Francisco’s biggest question mark – the defense has not quite rounded into form yet. The injuries, the suspensions and the offseason departures have meant an obvious downgrade for this unit – the 49ers look average on the defensive side of the ball for the time being – offense is going to have to win them a lot of games.

NFL Week 4 Betting Trends

• Over is 8-2 in PHI last 10 road games.
• Over is 6-2 in PHI last 8 games overall.
• SF are 28-13-1 ATS in their last 42 games on grass.
• Over is 7-1 in the last 8 meetings.

The Philadelphia Eagles have been winning without a major contribution for arguably their best offensive weapon – LeSean McCoy. Once he gets going and that time will come sooner than later – the Eagles become a very, very good team. If San Fran was on top of its game, they would be my pick but the 49ers have been vulnerable to say the least on both sides of the ball. The Eagles are rolling – expect that to continue Sunday.
