The Panthers won their first two games of this season, but that feels like ages ago.

After those first two games, the team went 1-2-1 over their next four, and things have completely come apart since then, with Carolina dropping five in a row heading into its by. Even still, the Panthers are just one game out in the dreadful NFC South.

They’ll face the Vikings rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater in this one. The Louisville product is coming off what was his best game as a pro, throwing for a career-high two touchdown passes and adding a career-high 32 rushing yards in a 24-21 loss to the Green Bay Packers.

Panthers quarterback Cam Newton will be happy to see the Vikings again. He threw for three touchdowns and ran for another in last year’s win over the Vikings. New Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer has turned the team’s defense around though, so he’ll face a tougher test this time around.

Newton’s year hasn’t gone quite that well this season. He’s dealt with a litany of injuries, and has tossed five interceptions over his last two games heading into the bye.

The Panthers’ backfield will finally be fully intact for this game, though. Fullback Mike Tolbert returns to action after having missed eight game with a left knee injury, joining backfield mates DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart, each of whom has also missed time due to various injuries this season.

Free Minnesota vs. Carolina Pick:

The bye week should have done wonders for a Panthers team that desperately needed a chance to step back and re-evaluate what they’re doing. The team is only one game out in the division, so a strong stretch run could have them returning to the postseason.

Additionally, both defenses have been getting a little more credit than they probably deserve. This game figures to feature some points with a healthy Newton keeping the chains moving all afternoon long.

The Panthers are 15-5-1 ATS in their last 21 games against opponents with a losing record, and they are 15-7 ATS in their last 22 road games against opponents with a losing home record.

The Panthers are 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games played in Week 13, and they are 5-2 ATS in their last seven games in the month of November.

The play: Carolina +2, Over 42.5

The over is 4-0 in the Panthers’ last four road games, and it is 9-4 in the Panthers’ last 13 games following a loss.
