Patriots

The game of the weekend takes place in Indianapolis this week when the New England Patriots travel west to take on the Indianapolis Colts. Both teams have serious Super Bowl aspirations this season and could make a huge statement with a win on national television Sunday night.

Both teams will be rested off their bye and will have all hands on deck for this much anticipated matchup.

The last time we saw the New England Patriots they were putting a beating on the Denver Broncos solid defense in Week 9. Tom Brady is playing arguably the best football of his career and Rob Gronkowski has looked like the most dominant pass catcher in the NFL the last few weeks.

All told the Patriots have scored 40+ points in each of their last four games and enter this weekend’s game looking like the best team in the AFC.

As mentioned, it has been the Tom Brady show for New England as of late – he threw four TDs against Denver and now has 18 TD passes with just one interception in his last five games overall. Brady is getting some much-needed protection; he is getting contributions from his running game, from Brandon LaFell and from a finally healthy Rob Gronkowski who has 254 yards receiving and four TDs in his last two games.

Gronk will likely be a huge factor Sunday against an Indianapolis defense that has struggled mightily this season against opposing Tight Ends.

Defensively the Patriots are coming off their best game of the season – they held the potent Broncos down and picked Peyton Manning off twice in the win. Their secondary has been good this season with the acquisition of Aqib Talib but will have their hands full Sunday against the highest scoring team in the NFL.

Colts

Like the Patriots the Indianapolis Colts posted an impressive win before their bye – 40-24 against the lowly Giants. This week will be a much different test for Andrew Luck and the Colts who have struggled against the Patriots in the past.

You can’t talk about the Colts without mentioning the offense which is tops in the NFL with an average of 32.2 points per game. Andrew Luck continues to dominate all teams and is coming off a 354 effort against the Giants.

He has TY Hilton (second in the NFL in receiving with 937 yards), Reggie Wayne, a Tight End duo of Dwayne Allen and Coby Fleener who have 11 TDs combined and Ahmad Bradshaw who has six receiving TDs at his disposal. All are huge weapons that have been made to look like pro bowlers with Andrew Luck throwing them the ball.

Indianapolis has been OK running the ball – Trent Richardson is still underwhelming and Ahmad Bradshaw has been OK out of the backfield as well. Make no mistakes about it however, Indy will throw the ball a ton and keep the game in Andrew Luck’s capable hands.

The Colts defense is a bit of a mystery – they gave up 51 points two games back against Pittsburgh and 24 points to the Giants (although the bulk of the points against New York came in garbage time).

The Patriots offer up the stiffest test since Denver came to town – hopes are they Colts figured a few things out during their bye.

NFL Week 11 Betting Trends

• NE are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games on fieldturf.
• NE are 4-11 ATS in their last 15 road games.
• Over is 41-15 in NE last 56 games on fieldturf.

• IND are 18-5 ATS in their last 23 home games.
• Over is 7-2 in IND last 9 vs. AFC.
• Underdog is 13-5-2 ATS in their last 20 meetings.

The Colts are 8-2 against the spread in their last 10 home games. The Pats are 10-4 under Belichick following their bye. Andrew Luck has failed to beat the Patriots so far in his career – losing both matchups by at least 20 points.

NFL Week 11 Betting Prediction

Luck himself has had his issues throwing seven picks in those games.

While I don’t expect Luck’s futility to rear its ugly head again, I do think he will stay winless against the Pats. Brady and Gronk dominate Sunday in a high scoring game.
