Jacksonville had a 17-0 lead over the Eagles last week, but they ended up losing the game (34-17). The Redskins had trouble scoring and lost on the road to the Texans (17-6) in their opener.

During the 1H it looked like the Jags were going to beat the Eagles or at the very least cover. Somehow the Jags managed to not only lose, but also not cover the +10.5 point spread after leading 17-0 at HT.

The Redskins game was extremely boring other than the 2nd quarter. Washington took a 7-0 lead, but the Texans followed that up with two TD’s in Q2. The only scoring play in the 2H was a FG by Houston.

Washington lost, but they gained more yards than Houston (372 vs. 321).

Like last year, the Redskins had problems protecting the football. Niles Paul and Robert Griffin III both lost a fumble in the game.

Pierre Garcon didn’t take long to get in the mix again this year, as he had 10 catches for 77 yards.

The run game looked good also, as Alfred Morris and Roy Helu combined for 18 carries and 137 rushing yards.

The Toby Gerhart experiment in Jacksonville didn’t pan out in week 1.

Gerhart got banged up and he only gained 42 yards on 18 carries (2.3 YPC). That put a lot more pressure on Chad Henne to perform.

Henne only completed 24/43 pass attempts for 266 yards and 2 TD’s. He didn’t throw an interception, but he did lose a fumble. Henne will start this week, but the coaches want him to air it out more.

Washington’s defense played well in week 1, but the offense has to put up some points.

  • Over is 6-2 in JAC last 8 road games.

  • Jacksonville has a few solid players on defense this season, but they allowed 420 total yards against the Eagles.

Free NFL Pick: Jaguars vs. Redskins

These are two bad teams, but I liked what I seen out of Washington despite the loss. They couldn’t punch it into the endzone last week, but against a softer Jaguars defense at home they should have success.

Allen Hurns scored both of the TD’s for the Jags and I feel that was a fluke performance that he won’t be able to replicate the rest of the season. Cecil Shorts will miss this game and that hurts the Jags as well.

4* Play on Washington Redskins –5.5 (-110)

We haven’t seen the Redskins win since week 9 of last season, which was also the last time this offense put up 30+ points. I expect a breakout performance this week and the Redskins score 30+ points.
