The top two seeds in the NFC meet in one of the marquee matchups on the NFL Week 11 schedule when the Detroit Lions travel to the desert to take on the Arizona Cardinals. It is a matchup of the two best defenses in the NFL – points will likely be difficult to come by.

Arizona is the Vegas favorite but may be in tough with Carson Palmer on the sidelines watching a surprisingly effective Drew Stanton lead what has been the nicest story in the NFL so far.

Lions

The Detroit Lions enter Sunday’s clash on a nice four game win streak – off a hard fought, last-minute win at home versus the Miami Dolphins – their third come-from-behind win in three weeks.

It is proof that Detroit is never out of a game and that this team has matured under first-year coach Jim Caldwell.

Detroit’s success is two-fold but the emergence of a stout defense has not only vaulted them to top spot in the NFC North but into the Super Bowl conversation this year. After nine games the Lions lead the league in points allowed (15.8) and yards allowed (280) per game – impressive indeed.

The pass rush, the secondary and the physical nature of this defensive squad figures to make life miserable for Drew Stanton and company – they will do their part meaning that it will likely be up to the Lions offense to be the difference in this game.

The Lions offense welcomed Calvin Johnson back to the lineup last Sunday after a three game absence and he made an immediate impact gaining 113 yards in the win. Along with perhaps the best second option in the game Golden Tate who has five 100+ yard receiving games on the season, Matt Stafford and company will certainly challenge Arizona’s stout defense.

Detroit could use a little more from their running game however – Reggie Bush was severely limited in Week 10 and has been just average so far this year. Joique Bell and Theo Riddick have been OK when called upon – good enough to keep the defenses honest and to allow the passing game to operate with efficiency and effectiveness.

Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals have the best record in the league after 10 weeks – who saw that coming? But the team will be forced to play without Carson Palmer for the rest of the season – allowing backup Drew Stanton to carry the load.

He has been good in relief this season – he has yet to throw an interception and has been able to get the ball to the numerous playmakers on the team.

Larry Fitzgerald is back to being a weekly threat, breakout star John Brown has been sensational as of late and Michael Floyd exists on what is quietly becoming one of the best receiving corps. in the league.

Running back Andre Ellington has also been terrific and looks like the answer to a seemingly age old question mark in the desert. Simply put, even with Stanton at the helm Arizona is one of the more well-balanced offenses in the game – a superb compliment to a defense that has defense that has emerged as one of the best units in the game.

Speaking of the Cardinals defense – this unit has yet to allow more than 20 points this season – that came against Denver! They scored two defensive TDs in their Week 10 win over St. Louis. The pass rush is insane and the secondary, led by All-World cornerback Patrick Peterson and Tyron Mathieu has emerged as one of the most feared units in the game.

Nobody is having success against Arizona – the Lions will have their hands full Sunday.

NFL Week 11 Betting Prediction

:

That Lions defense will be the difference Sunday as Detroit holds Drew Stanton and company in check and allows Calvin Johnson, Golden Tate and Matthew Stafford to create a little more magic.

To beat the Lions right now, teams have to be at their absolute best – unfortunately with Stanton at the helm Arizona won’t quite be at their best Sunday.
