NFL Odds: Broncos vs Seahawks Pick

NFL Week 3 Regular Season action sees the Denver Broncos taking on the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, September 21 at CenturyLink Field. Cappers Picks provides free *NFL*handicapping tips all season long.

A rematch of the 2014 Super Bowl comes our way this weekend from Seattle – and what a game it should be! The Denver Broncos will be looking for some revenge as they try to remain undefeated on the season while the Seahawks will be looking for a bounce back effort after a humbling 30-21 loss at San Diego last week.

Will the offseason changes made by the Broncos be enough to get them past their NFC foe? Or will the changes that Seattle inspired Denver to make simply lessen the impact of this already budding rivalry? Let’s take a look.

Broncos

The Denver Broncos have looked good so far this season but the measuring stick of exactly where they are comes this weekend against a team they lost 43-8 to in the Super Bowl. Changes were made after that loss – particularly on a defense that was run over by the Hawks in February.

DeMarcus Ware and Aqib Talib have made an impact – that’s for sure but their presence hasn’t completely transformed this defense just yet.

Denver has to be a tad concerned about how they let Indianapolis and a Jamaal Charles-less KC team march up and down the field. The Broncos have allowed over 800 yards of combined offense so far and now face the task of a very well balanced offense in Seattle – on their home turf! Denver’s defense, on paper should be a good test for Seattle – they just need to put it all together on the field.

Offensively we can expect Denver to look as good as they ever have. You can bet that Peyton Manning will have had this game circled on his calendar and will have thought long and hard about how to beat the Legion of Boom and Seattle’s 12th man. Manning has thrown for three TDs in each of his first two games so far – Demaryius Thomas, Julius Thomas and Emanuel Sanders have been stellar… and now the Broncos may get Wes Welker back in the fold!

Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks showed some kinks in the armor last week in their loss to San Diego – both defensively and offensively – something they will hope to rectify this week against arguably the highest power offense the league has ever seen.

Philip Rivers and company did seemingly whatever he wanted against Seattle’s D – they gained yards, they scored points and they dominated the time of possession aspect. Seattle created zero turnovers in the loss and only had one sack on Rivers.

We know that Seattle will be better defensively this week – particularly with the raucous crowd behind them but one troubling trend sticks out ahead of this week.

The play of Seattle’s stop unit against the tight end.

Antonio Gates scored three touchdowns against the Hawks last week and now the team faces Julius Thomas who is far more talented than Gates at this point of his career.

Seattle’s offense has been fine when given the chance. Percy Harvin still looks like a serious difference maker and Marshawn Lynch should be poised for a bounce back after a quiet Week 2.

The Hawks are dangerous when they have the ball – it will be the defense that wins or loses this game.

NFL Week 3 Betting Trends:

• Over is 16-4-1 in DEN last 21 games on fieldturf.
• Over is 13-6 in DEN last 19 road games.
• Over is 51-25-1 in DEN last 77 games overall.
• SEA are 16-5 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
• Under is 6-2 in SEA last 8 games on fieldturf.
• Under is 7-3 in SEA last 10 games overall.
• Over is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings.
• Road team is 7-3 ATS in their last 10 meetings.

The San Diego Chargers may have created a blueprint for defeating Seattle – hold onto the ball, wear down the defense and keep the offense on the sidelines. There isn’t any better in the league at clock management that Peyton Manning.

While I think that Seattle wins this game, I see 5 points as a little rich. In the game of the weekend Denver keeps this game close but loses by a field goal in the end.
