The Dallas Cowboys who sit in a tie with the Philadelphia Eagles for top spot in the Division visit the basement dwellers of the division – the New York Giants who have already been relegated to a spoiler role.

This could be seen as a trap game for the Cowboys – the Eagles are next on the schedule Thanksgiving Thursday. Will looking past the G-Men prove to be a mistake? Let’s break it down.

Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys bye couldn’t have come at a better time – it gave Tony Romo’s back an extra week to heel up and it game DeMarco Murray some well deserved time off. Dallas should be healthy, rested and ready for a strong stretch run.

What a difference a healthy Tony Romo makes! He returned from injury in Week 10 and efficiently guided the Cowboys to a relatively easy win over the Jaguars in London, snapping the Cowboys two game losing streak. Romo didn’t have to do much against the lowly Jags but he still tossed three TDs in the win. Dez Bryant returned to his dominant self, Jason Witten was a terrific security blanket and DeMarco Murray was efficient and effective in the Week 10 win – a good sign for the Boys heading into the stretch run.

DeMarco Murray ran for 128 yards on 28 carries in the first meeting of the season and Tony Romo threw for 279 yards and three TDs while completing 74% of his passes in that game. Expect more of the same Sunday against a New York defense that hasn’t been great at all this entire season.

Defensively the Cowboys have been OK but get a shot at a New York offense that has been generous to say the least. The G-Men were picked off five times last week and didn’t generate much offense at all until the fourth quarter. Thankfully the Cowboys defense won’t have to do much to get the win Sunday.

Giants

The New York Giants enter Sunday’s game having lost five straight games. Although a 16-10 loss last week against San Francisco looks OK on paper, the team did give the ball away five times and they lost the time-of-possession battle by a staggering 35 minutes. The Giants offense is still bad and the defense has been typically brutal during their losing streak.

The offensive leader Eli Manning looked awful last week in posting a 36.6 passer rating. He threw five ugly interceptions and was unable to find his biggest weapon Odell Beckham until the fourth quarter of the game. When Eli struggles he looks really bad – that’s what has been happening lately.

The Giants running game hasn’t been helping Eli out. The return of Rashad Jennings from injury was supposed to be a boon for this offense but like his backups in the previous games he failed to get anything going behind what has been a very disappointing offensive line.

Sunday’s game will come down to New York’s defense – one of the worst units in the league. Sure they held San Francisco to 16 points last week but that was as much about how poorly the 49ers executed rather than how good the Giants were. This team surrenders over 30 points per game and they allowed Seattle to rumble for 350 yards on the ground just two starts ago – 350!

Simply put the Giants are a mess all over the field – not trustworthy in any aspect of the game right now.

DeMarco Murray should dominate and Tony Romo should be afforded time to do whatever he wants.
