The Houston Texans host the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday night in an AFC South tilt that will leave the winner in sole possession of the division lead. The Texans started off hot but have cooled of late, while the Colts have bounced back from a pair of season-opening losses to win three in a row.

Colts

The Colts and Texans are already well ahead of the pack in the AFC South, making Thursday night’s game especially important. The Colts have won nine in a row inside the division, including three in a row over these very Texans, and 20 of 24 all-time meetings.

The Colts defense has been better than advertised of late, holding three consecutive opponents under 350 yards in winning three in a row, forcing at least three turnovers in each of those contests.

The Colts turned the ball over four times in their 20-13 victory over the Baltimore Ravens, but the defense held strong to minimize the damage.

Texans

As for the Texans, they’ve received inconsistent play from quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick as he gets acclimated to the new offense in his first year with the club, but he’s enjoyed facing the Colts in the past, throwing for 377 yards and four touchdowns without an interception in two home starts against them, good for a 116.6 quarterback rating.

Texans running back Arian Foster has also enjoyed facing the Colts and their leaky run defense, going off for 752 yards and six touchdowns in six meetings against them. That includes a career-high 231 yards and three touchdowns in 2010.

As for the Texans defense, they’ve bent but haven’t broken, allowing teams to rack up gaudy yardage totals, but limiting points against, which is largely thanks to a league-high 12 takeaways.

Free Indianapolis vs. Houston Pick:

The Colts are the hotter team, and while the Texans have the luxury of getting this game at home – a major advantage on a short week – Indianapolis is riding a wave of momentum that doesn’t look like it can be stopped.

Additionally, the Texans should be able to pick up some points on the ground with their running game, while Andrew Luck is in such a great zone right now that he figures to help the Colts to another bunch of touchdowns through the air.

NFL Gambling Trends

The Colts are 10-1-1 ATS in their last 12 Thursday games, while the Texans are 0-4 ATS in their last four Thursday games.

The Colts are also 14-3 ATS in their last 17 games against AFC South opponents, and they are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings between these teams.

The over is 7-1 in the Colts’ last eight road games, and it is 7-2 in the last nine meetings between these teams in Houston.

Fitzpatrick has to much heart and Watt to much money to lose tonight at home to Indy. The trend ends tonight and Hou pulls out a big win.
