Mark Sanchez will try to deal a death blow to Carolina’s playoff aspirations but will have his hands full against a Cam Newton led squad that will be looking to make a little noise on National Television.

Panthers

The Carolina Panthers miserable season maybe hit a new low in Week 9 when handed the New Orleans Saints an uber-rare road win. The Panthers have now gone 1-5-1 in their last seven games and have all but fallen out of the playoff picture. The defense has been a shadow of its 2013 self and the offense just can’t seem to get going.

Carolina’s defense has been OK the last two game but are far off the pace that made them one of the most feared units in the game last season. It is amazing what the loss of one player can mean for a team. Without Greg Hardy teams are running and passing on this team at a rate unforeseen at the beginning of the season. The good news is that the D has looked a tad better – they held the Saints to 325 total yards last week and they held the Seahawks to just 13 points in a Week 8 loss.

Some more good news comes in the form of their Monday opponent who will send out Mark Sanchez to guide what has been a prolific offense so far.

While the Carolina defense seems to be getting better as the season rolls along, the offense is taking a step backward.

Look no further than Cam Newton who completed just 10 of 28 passes against an underwhelming Saints defense last Thursday night for 151 yards. Cam has been borderline woeful the last month – he isn’t running the ball effectively, throwing with much accuracy and he is turning the ball over far too frequently – Newton has thrown at least one pick in his last five games!

In turn the Panthers are averaging less than 10 points per game their last two – both at home!

Maybe the return of three offensive linemen will help – Byron Bell, Amini Silatolu and Trai Turner are all slated to return from injury this weekend – these three should give Newton a little confidence and help out an emerging running game.

Perhaps the best part of Carolina’s offense has been the running game – something that was deemed a huge weakness before the season started. Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams are both finally healthy and looking OK.

Eagles

The injury bug has bitten the Philadelphia Eagles hard on both sides of the ball – Nick Foles is gone for the foreseeable future and linebacker DeMeco Ryans and left guard Todd Herremans went down last week against the Texans. Despite the loss of those three players, the Eagles still managed to record a 31-21 win in Houston in Week 9. The question is – how long will the run of good luck and incredible ability to plug holes hold up?

Mark Sanchez will be the starter Monday night and he looked good in relief of Nick Foles who had been just average all season long. Sanchez went 15-for-22 for 202 yards and 2 TDs with 2 picks. As long as Jeremy Maclin keeps playing at the level he has been at the last month, the feeling is that the Eagles won’t feel much of a drop-off with the change at QB.

If the passing game fails, and I don’t necessarily think it will, the Eagles have their running game to lean on. After an incredibly slow start to the season Philadelphia has picked up their rushing attack – they went for 190 yards against Houston and have averaged over 160 yards per game the last month.

The rushing attack gets a crack at Carolina’s 26th ranked run defense in this one.

NFL Week 10 Betting Trends

• Under is 11-2 in CAR last 13 vs. NFC.
• Under is 11-4 in CAR last 15 games on grass.
• CAR are 11-5-1 ATS in their last 17 games on grass.
• Over is 7-1-1 in PHI last 9 Mon. games.
• PHI are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 Mon. games.

The Carolina Panthers have not looked good – their latest two losses were on home turf.

NFL Week 10 Betting Prediction

Philadelphia is seriously banged up on both sides of the ball – while I expect them to win Monday, I have a feeling that Cam Newton shows up in this one and keeps the Panthers within striking distance.
