Mike Tomlin’s Steelers are riding high after putting on a clinic last Sunday, dismantling the Carolina Panthers on the road while the Bucs are still licking their wounds after a 56-14 thumping at the hands of the Atlanta Falcons.

There’s not a lot to get excited about in this game unless you’re a Steelers fan and you’ve already chalked this one up to the black and yellow moving to a 3-1 record.

While this isn’t a must-win game by any stretch for Pittsburgh, with the way the Bengals have been playing out of the gate and looking like a runaway favourite to win the AFC North, Pittsburgh will need to keep piling up wins to keep pace for a wild card spot.

The Bucs meanwhile will be looking for any signs of improvement this week. This team is not going to be a playoff contender, but will need to find positives and keeping games close should be priority one for them right now.

Buccaneers

The visitors are coming off a horrific loss in week three where they were tuned by the Atlanta Falcons 56-14. The Falcons were up 56-0 in that game and Tampa managed to salvage a few pride points late, but this was after Atlanta had shut down most of their starters for the night, this realistically could’ve been a scoreline of 76-0 if the Falcons had felt like it.

It’s hard to find positives in this team right now and head coach Lovie Smith has his work cut out for him. The team all but gave up last week after Atlanta stormed out to an early lead. If there’s one category the Bucs should look to improve upon this week it’s turnovers; they committed five last week. Right now it looks like Mike Glennon will get the start at QB after he replaced Josh McCown in Atlanta after McCown suffered a thumb injury.

About those positives that are tough to find, Tampa Bay has the luxury of a long lay off after playing last Thursday and should be well rested.

Steelers

Pittsburgh was impressive last week, they rode their ground attack of Le’Veon Bell and LeGarrette Blount to a 37-19 victory. Both running backs amassed over 100 yards  (Bell – 147, Blount – 118) and it looked like a prototypical Steelers game where they stuck to their guns running the ball until Carolina wore down.

On defense it’s still tough to say whether Pittsburgh is a team to fear. The Baltimore Ravens torched them two weeks ago and the Browns put in work on them in week one. Carolina was stifled for much of the night last week, but Cam Newton looked nowhere near 100 per cent. This week the defense shouldn’t be under much duress as the Bucs just don’t have a lot of weapons to wield.

NFL Week 4 Betting Trends

  • PIT are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games in September.
  • Over is 6-2 in PIT last 8 games overall.
  • PIT are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games overall.

Week 4 Buccaneers vs. Steelers 4* Free Pick

Tampa is bad, but not as bad as they showed last week and despite the Steelers hanging 37 points on the Panthers last week I don’t think their offense is nearly as potent as the Falcons’.

Having said that, 7.5 points should be a more than attainable margin of victory for Pittsburgh who will likely stick with the ground pound to wear the Bucs out and utilize wide out Antonio Brown deep down field. Not a huge blow out, I’m seeing this one finishing somewhere in the neighbourhood of 28-10.

Pick the Steelers -7.5 (-110)
