The Browns narrowly lost to the hated Steelers in the season’s opening week, and then pulled out a gutsy win against the dangerous New Orleans Saints in Week 2. Maybe the former Browns franchise (the artist now known as the Baltimore Ravens) can knock the mojo out of the Ohioans.

Many fans are lusting over “Johnny Football” or “Johnny Cleveland” or whatever stupid nickname rookie Manziel now possesses, but the truth is that current starter Brian Hoyer is playing quite well.

The Browns first-round QB has been on the field only for a run and an incompletion thus far, while Hoyer has commanded 426 passing yards and an 87.0 QB rating.

Cleveland being at 1-1 despite losing star WR Josh Gordon to a slew of misdeeds is pretty impressive considering no one expected much from the Browns anyway and the Browns have played the Steelers and Saints.

The Ravens, also sitting at 1-1 on the season, are hoping to show the AFC that they are to be reckoned with.

Veteran WR Steve Smith (Steve Smith Sr. now he’s a Pop) has proven to be a good target for QB Joe Flacco; the RB position is being guided capably in Ray Rice’s absence with the duo of quick Justin Forsett and reliable Bernard Pierce.

It’s a good thing, because the Ravens’ pass defense routinely gets fried like a Maryland crab cake.

The Browns definitely have a dearth of talent, but with the rather pathetic state of their division and buoyed by the moral support of the Dawg Pound on the shores of Lake Erie, Cleveland has a fair chance of moving to 2-1 in Week 3.

Yet, the Ravens beat up on Pittsburgh quite thoroughly last week. If Baltimore can duplicate that model, they should escape the unfriendly confines of FirstEnergy Stadium with a win.

Injuries, suspensions and general malaise has made the AFC North into an unimposing division this year; it seems up for grabs.

NFL Week 3 Free Pick

With not much in the way of skill position players, Cleveland needs a tangible contribution from third-round pick Terrance West at running back. If someone – TE Jordan Cameron, reclamation project WR Miles Austin, West – can find the endzone,  I like Cleveland’s chances at home.

If not, Baltimore should take a further step to cement the hatred of the Cleveland faithful. Not that there needs to be any more fuel on the fire.

4* Free Play Score Prediction: Cleveland 24, Baltimore 21
