The two QBs have faced each other twice in the past each winning once – the combined score of those games is 65-64 in favor of Denver – interesting indeed!

The Broncos know that their window is closing for a Super Bowl win – a win by Indy Sunday could be a sign of a new window opening for the Colts!

Colts

Make no mistake about it; Indianapolis is Andrew Luck’s town! He was remarkable this year throwing for 4,761 yards and 40 TDs. Luck carried that success into last week against Cincinnati when he threw for 376 yards and a TD in the win. His legend could be cemented this week against Denver and Hall-of-Famer Peyton Manning. But Luck will have to take care of the ball as he did last week and hope his receivers are able to hold onto the ball unlike they did last week.

Luck faces a Denver defense with some big names looking to steal the spotlight. The Broncos have allowed just 255 yards per game through the air – especially impressive considering most of their opposition this year had to throw in order to keep up!

The importance of Luck is further emphasized with the realization that the Colts have no real running game to speak of. Sure Dan Herron was good last week but that seems to the exception, not the rule. After all he did fumble twice in the win over Cincinnati.

Perhaps the biggest question mark for the Colts heading into Sunday’s clash is the defense. They looked good last week but were facing a Bengals team that simply can’t get it done in the playoffs and were without AJ Green and Jermaine Gresham. Denver is a different type of challenge for this average unit, especially at Mile High. Translation – the advantage here has to go to Denver.

Broncos

The Denver Broncos will start their quest for a second straight AFC crown on Sunday – they learned their lesson and bolstered their defense ahead of another playoff run. T.J. Ward, Aqib Talib and DeMarcus Ware brought in for this very goal – to dominate in the playoffs and to bring Peyton Manning a ring in what could be one of his last two or three cracks at it.

Denver enters Sunday’s clash with the third best overall defense in the game – they should be able to hold their own but will still have their hands full with Andrew Luck and the boys.

This game will come down to how Peyton Manning and the Denver offense operates. Manning seemed to slump toward the end of the year but finished with 4, 727 yards and 39 TDs. Against his former team, Manning will have motivation to spare. He threw for 269 yards in the first matchup of the season with three TDs and zero interceptions.

Manning, Demaryius Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders and Julius Thomas will get a crack at an average Indianapolis pass defense – you’d have to think that Denver owns a serious advantage in the passing game.

Perhaps the more integral part of Denver’s offense will be the running game and CJ Anderson. Not only has the breakout back rushed for 648 yards and six TDs the last six games, he’s kept defenses honest and has allowed Peyton to stay upright and healthy as the season has gone on. Indianapolis is 18th in the NFL against the run – like the passing game Denver has an advantage in the rushing department as well.

NFL Divisional Playoffs Betting Trends

• IND are 18-7-1 ATS in their last 26 vs. AFC.
• IND are 15-6-1 ATS in their last 22 games overall.
• Over is 10-4 in IND last 14 road games.
• DEN are 2-6-1 ATS in their last 9 games in January.
• Over is 33-13-1 in DEN last 47 home games.
• DEN are 20-8-1 ATS in their last 29 games on grass.
• Over is 8-1 in the last 9 meetings.

The Indianapolis Colts have struggled recently in the playoffs on the road. Luck is 0-2 on the road in the playoffs with two TDs combined in those games to go along with five interceptions. The Colts enter Sunday’s game a tad one-dimensional on offense – that’s what hurts this team.
