5 NFL Teams to Avoid When Betting on NFL Futures Odds

Don’t believe the NFL Betting hype

The National Football League season is right around the corner. The Seattle Seahawks look to defend the first Super Bowl win in franchise history, while 31 other teams would be more than happy to knock them off their pedestal.

With pundits across the country pumping the tires of certain teams, it can be difficult for bettors to decipher which squads are for real and which aren’t.

Here are five teams bettors will want to avoid when betting NFL futures: Odds provided by [dfads params=’groups=63740&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

Indianapolis Colts

Odds
AFC South: -150
AFC: +1000
Super Bowl: +2200

The Indianapolis Colts have been to the playoffs in back-to-back seasons since drafting quarterback Andrew Luck. The team’s offense was able to weather the absence of Reggie Wayne a year ago, and if running back Trent Richardson can figure things out, the unit can be special.

With that said, the Colts aren’t quite ready to compete with the AFC’s elite teams just yet certainly not until the defense catches up.

Philadelphia Eagles

Odds
NFC East: +140
NFC: +1400
Super Bowl: +2500

It didn’t take the Eagles long to break through and get into the playoffs in the Chip Kelly-era. The former Oregon coach’s innovative offense caught many off guard, but pulling off the feat a second year in a row now that opponents have tape to study will be a major challenge.

Expecting a repeat performance from Nick Foles, who threw only two interceptions last season, seems unlikely.

Cincinnati Bengals

Odds
AFC North: +190
AFC: +1400
Super Bowl: +3000

The Bengals are certainly headed in the right direction. They have plenty of talent at the skill positions, a solid offensive lines, and one of the better defenses in football. The problem for the team is at the quarterback position, and that’s a big problem to have.

Andy Dalton hasn’t shown that he can be consistently good enough to lead this team to a championship, and with bounce backs expected from the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens, this doesn’t look like it will be the Bengals’ year.

Carolina Panthers

Odds
NFC South: +300
NFC: +1800
Super Bowl: +3300

A big step forward for the Panthers last season. There wouldn’t have been many pundits that predicted that they would make the playoffs, and certainly even fewer would have predicted they would claim the NFC South.

With an opportunity to build on their momentum in the offseason, the Panthers instead elected to tighten the purse strings, and that will mean a tough time keeping up with an improving New Orleans Saints team, and an Atlanta Falcons squad due for a big bounce back.

Arizona Cardinals

Odds
NFC West: +700
NFC: +2000
Super Bowl: +4000

The Cardinals quietly enjoyed a 10-win season a year ago, and that has many thinking they could fly under the radar and surprise again this season, particularly with an extra year in Bruce Arians’s system.

The reality is, they are still a ways away from being able to compete with the powerhouses in their division, and one of the NFC North or South teams will surely claim the other wild card spot.
