The Chicago Bears finally have a quarterback, so what’s their upside?

The Bears have been an NFC contender throughout the Lovie Smith era and won nine games last year, so the addition of Cutler makes them a playoff team at the very least. But at a closer look, Cutler could lead this team back to the Super Bowl.

Consider that the Bears not only haven’t had a competent quarterback in a long time, but take into account that the Bears have been crippled by the production at the position. Guys like Rex Grossman, Kyle Orton, Cade McNown, Jim Miller, Brian Griese, Chad Hutchinson, Chris Chandler and Shane Matthews have not only failed to be caretakers, they have cripple the team with their giveaways.

Now the Bears have a huge upgrade at the position, which will have a ripple effect on their whole team.

Their receiver corps is subpar but there are enough parts to get the job done. Devin Hester and Greg Olsen are deep threats, Earl Bennett and Desmond Clark are safety valves while Matt Forte is one of the best up-and-coming backs in the league.

The biggest ripple effect should be felt on defense. This stellar Bears defense has been dominant throughout the 2000’s even though the offense has continually put them in horrendous positions after turnovers or hung them out to dry with their incompetence.

Now, all of the sudden, the Bears defense, which is still a premier unit, doesn’t have to carry the team. They’ll be able to rest more and get some support from the offense.

This is a veteran team that knows what it takes to win and now that they finally have a leader on offense, they should do exactly that.

I can’t imagine saying this about Chicago but their offense is much better than their D this season. Their D has slipped some and with the emergence of Forte and the addition of Cutler the Bears can likely play offense with anyone. They are in the mix if the defense does their part. 3rd in the NFC North

The Bears are definatly a team to reckon with. Those who bet the house on them need not look further that last year, when Cutler, despite a team record for yardage, collapsed at the end of the year. And this happened with 2 legit Top 20 wideouts. Sorry folks, there isnt a reviever on the Bears roster even capable of catching 5 balls per game. Cutler’s bad attitude will wear thin on the other big personalities on the team, and the Bears will ride the defense to a 3rd place finish in the division, just outside a Wild Card spot this year.
