Jobs are on the line – it should be a surprisingly interesting affair – like an episode of Law and Order – Special Victims Unit!

The Carolina Panthers lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week in a game that they could have won but just has it gone all season long, they found a way to lose – in five of their last six losses they had the lead at one point in the game. Cam Newton and the Panthers offense has taken a major step back this year and the defense is certainly underachieving thus far.

Carolina enters Monday’s showdown with the league’s 18th ranked passing game and the 16th best rushing attack – disappointing considering where this team was last year! Cam Newton doesn’t look the same and the duo of DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart have been one of the bigger disappointments in the NFL so far this season. Carolina is 27th in scoring in the NFL with an average of just 18.40 points per game – no wonder they are 2-8.

Carolina`s defense hasn`t been anything to write home about either this season. They are 17th against the pass and 19th versus the run while giving up 24.30 points per game – 21st in the NFL. A whole lot more was expected of this unit that has, like the offense, underachieved all season long.

And then there is the Philadelphia Eagles. I just can`t get the song “Free Fallin’” by Top Petty out of my head. They have lost six straight games and the offense and defense have been awful, absolutely awful!

The Eagles will be without Michael Vick again this week – Nick Foles will start on the heels of a 21-46 for 204 yards, two interceptions and a TD against a Washington defense that has been amongst the worst in the NFL all season long. The Eagles enter Sunday’s game with the 15th ranked passing game – a ranking that is bound to go down as the season comes to a merciful end!

Philadelphia may be forced to play without LeSean McCoy as well – oh-oh! He is arguably their best play-maker and will be missed even more than Mr. Vick.[soliloquy id=”82219″]

The Eagles own the league’s 11th ranked running game but will have a difficult time generating anything if LeSean McCoy is forced to sit! And then there is the absolutely awful offensive line! Enough piling on the Eagles? I haven’t gotten to the defense yet!

Philadelphia’s defense is middle-of-the-pack statistically but they have certainly been prone to the Big Play. They are 12th against the pass, 18th versus the run but they allow 25.20 points per game – 22nd in the NFL. Breakdowns, and a lack of focus have plagued this talented group all season. There is no excuse for the gaffes – this unit is much better than they have been playing!

Betting Prediction:

• The total has gone OVER in 6 of Carolina’s last 9 games on the road
• The total has gone OVER in 4 of Carolina’s last 6 games when playing Philadelphia
• Carolina is 2-4 ATS in its last 6 games
• Carolina is 1-4 SU in its last 5 games on the road
• Philadelphia is 4-1 SU in its last 5 games when playing Carolina
• The total has gone UNDER in 8 of Philadelphia’s last 12 games
• The total has gone OVER in 4 of Philadelphia’s last 6 games when playing Carolina
• Philadelphia is 5-11 SU in its last 16 games at home
• Carolina is 2-4 ATS in its last 6 games
• Carolina is 1-4 ATS in its last 5 games when playing Philadelphia
• Philadelphia is 0-5 ATS in its last 5 games
• Philadelphia is 1-4 ATS in its last 5 games at home
• The total has gone OVER in 4 of Philadelphia’s last 6 games when playing Carolina

News flash folks – the Eagles have mailed it in. They don’t even look competitive at the moment. Blame injuries, blame systems or blame lofty expectations but the fact is that this team isn’t getting it done on the field. I don’t love Carolina but at least they are showing up every week and competing. Take the road team to add to Andy Reid’s woes!

Pick: Carolina Panthers -1
