Week one is in the books and both the Bills and Browns are coming off of Week 1 losses. As in every game that involves the Browns, all eyes will be on Johnny Manziel. After a fairly strong first showing, will he continue to shine?

Kickoff is slated for 8:00PM on ESPN. The second week of preseason means a bit more time for the starters in the first half. Both of these teams are showing quite a bit of depth at the QB position, and the battles are just starting to heat up.

Buffalo Bills

The new look, new attitude Buffalo Bills have a lot to prove this year, and they’ve wasted no time in acquiring a ton of talent in search of a way to knock off those pesky Patriots at the top of the division.

New coach Rex Ryan has recently stated that he is thinking about keeping three QB’s on the 53 man roster when cuts come, so it looks like he isn’t too sure about starting QB Matt Cassel as the number 1. Behind him are EJ Manuel, Matt Simms and Tyrod Taylor.

But unfortunately, it isn’t the QB battle that is garnering the most attention for the Bills these days.

New WR Percy Harvin would rather talk about what he did wrong in Seattle than talk about what he plans on doing right here in Buffalo, and another new player who definitely packs some punch, LB IK Enemkpali could be facing some sort of suspension time for punching former teammate Geno Smith in New York earlier this month.

Another newcomer for the Bills, RB LeSean McCoy, who alongside Fred Jackson, give Rex Ryan quite a powerful one-two punch out of the backfield. The running game is definitely the shining spot of this offensive unit.

Cleveland Browns

After a narrow defeat to the Redskins in the first week of preseason, the Browns are looking to get off to a fast start this week. With their second consecutive start at home in those fancy new uniforms, this could be the chance to get in the win column.

New starter Josh McCown is looking to shake off a terrible year in Tampa Bay last year, and get back to his form while with Chicago. Right on his heels is second year Manziel, who is trying to prove to America that his party days are behind him, and he is ready to play some football.

If ever there were a yin/yang tandem of QB’s, the Browns have it. McCown is a pocket passer/gun slinger, while Manziel is more of the read option run first type of player the league is seeing more and more of these days.

The good news for both of these players is, the two new targets the Browns brought in, Dwayne Bowe and Brian Hartline.

Bowe had been a standout fantasy option for many years in Kansas City, while Hartline is experiencing a homecoming of sorts, finally getting to play professional football in his home state.

The offense in Cleveland is still a work in progress, but with the talent they’ve brought in on the defensive side of things, they could see themselves on the verge of playoff contention once again this year. As they say, defense wins football games.

NFL Betting Trends

  • Cleveland leads the all-time record 12-8
  • Bills won last meeting 26-10 (2014)
  • Browns haven’t made the playoffs since 2002
  • Bills haven’t made the playoffs since 1999

4* NFL Betting Prediction: Under 34

The QB’s are the name of the game on both sides of the ball this week. Look for both teams to air it out a bit more, as the roster battles here are more apparent then most other offensive spots.

NFL Score Prediction: Cleveland 17 – Buffalo 10

The jitters should be shaken off now, and the first teams will be itching to get some more on-field time.
