NFL Divisional Previews – 2011 NFC East Betting Breakdown

The 2011-2012 NFL season is looming but unfortunately so is the unfortunate Lockout. The eternal optimist that I am, I have compiled odds and predictions for each division in the knowledge that the owners and the players cannot be as ridiculous as they look.

Is there a more fun division in football than the NFC East? Four NFL Heavyweights in the same Division – so much fun! The NFC East features three teams that could win the division and challenge for a Super Bowl crown. If you love smash mouth, loud mouth, passionate, competitive ball – you must love the NFC East.

The Eagles have re-emerged, the Cowboys are healthy and the Giants are… well, the same.

So who wins the ulta-competitive NFC East?

Philadelphia Eagles

Odds To Win NFC East +150
Odds To Win Super Bowl +1200

The Eagles’ quarterback controversy hasn’t totally gone away in the offseason; Kevin Kolb is still an Eagle despite the commitment of the Eagles to Michael Vick. Maybe Andy Reid is just being smart – after all, can you see Mike Vick lasting 16 games with his style of ball? I can’t and that’s the biggest reason that the Eagles may underachieve in 2011. They still have one of the most dangerous offensive and Special Teams weapons in the NFL – DeSean Jackson, a good supporting cast and the Eagles third worst pass defense made huge strides during the NFL draft.

The Eagles are a good team and should qualify for the playoffs.

Eagles NFC East Prediction:A 10-6 record gets them to the post season but keeps them from an NFC East crown.

New York Giants

Odds To Win NFC East +180
Odds To Win Super Bowl +1500

The New York Giants are a difficult team to figure out – they have good players at every position but lack greatness in any one area. Eli Manning is OK – certainly not elite and the running backs have proven decent at times. Inconsistency has plagued both of the primary rushers however. The Wide Receivers may be New York’s best assets but without an elite arm to deliver the ball, a lot of their talents may just be wasted. The same goes for the defense – they are good but not great!

In an uber-competitive division, the Giants have to be clicking on all cylinders if they want to win the Division. I can only think of one time in the last decade when this has happened for this team and a Super Bowl resulted.

Giants NFC East Prediction: I just can’t see the Giants putting it all together under Coach Coughlin – 3rd place in the NFC East and a 9-7 record is what I see! [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Dallas Cowboys

Odds To Win NFC East +225
Odds To Win Super Bowl +20000

The Dallas Cowboys have been knocking on the door for an eternity but somehow always manage winding up mediocre in the end. The time for talk is over – it is time for this team to start delivering! Tony Romo is back healthy ready to take control of an offense that scored 29.1 PPG over eight weeks under Jason Garrett and without Romo! With names like Dez Bryant and Miles Austin on the roster we know that this team will score. Dallas missed a huge opportunity to improve their brutal defense – they totally whiffed on any defensive help!

Cowboys NFC East Prediction: To me, the Dallas Cowboys are ready for Prime Time. I can see them taking advantage of two teams that could take a step back and with an 11-5 record will win the Division.

Washington Redskins

Odds To Win NFC East +1000
Odds To Win Super Bowl +6000

Not much to like about the Skins this year – they are going into the season with either John Buck or Rex Grossman at quarterback and the defense is terrible.

Redskins NFC East Prediction: Expect four or five wins – that’s about it.
