The Atlanta Falcons are coming off a one-touchdown victory against the Tennessee Titans in Week 1 of the NFL Preseason, 31-24, while the New York Kets are coming off a 20-point loss versus the Detroit Lions, 23-3.

While preseason wins and losses hold virtually no meaning, the play on the field is a different story. The theme in this one will be the Falcons doing what they need to do to keep momentum going forward, while the Jets look to bounce back from an absolutely awful first showing.

Atlanta Falcons

Last week versus the Titans, T.J. Yates took the majority of the snaps from behind center. Matt Ryan did have a strong 6-for-6 showing (average of 14.3 yards per toss and a touchdown), but Yates completed 9-of-15 passes for a touchdown. Expect Yates to continue taking the bulk of the snaps in Week 2 against the Jets.

With Atlanta knowing what it has in the passing game, there’s a good chance we see the team look to establish its running game more heavily in this one. Antone Smith is out, which is another reason this group needs to figure out when it has when Matt Ryan or anyone else isn’t tossing the ball downfield.

The time is now for this group to see what it’s got — especially against a lowly Jets squad in Week 2.

New York Jets

The Jets need to bounce back in Week 2 of the preseason. Not only are they coming off a horrible loss, but they’re still reeling from the realization that they’re going to be without Geno Smith for the foreseeable future because of the knuckle-headed sucker punch heard ’round the world.

Last week, New York showed practically nothing on the offensive side of the ball. The team somehow managed to gain just 122 yards throughout the entire contest, and there was virtually no consistency when it came to pushing the ball forward.

With Smith out, Ryan Fitzpatrick needs to gain momentum, and he needs to do it quickly. Expect him to get a decent amount of opportunities to prove himself in this one — and throughout the remainder of the NFL’s preseason.

NFL Betting Trends:

Falcons are 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games on fieldturf.
Jets are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall

4* NFL Betting Prediction: Atlanta -1

Both teams have questions at this point in the process — not a surprising or uncommon theme during the seemingly meaningless games before the real year begins — but one team has far more questions than the other. Spoiler alert: It’s the J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS!

NFL Score Prediction: Atlanta 23 – New York 13

New York will be looking to prove itself, but it likely won’t do it in Week 2 of the preseason. Expect to see a better showing than last week, but don’t expect anything spectacular in a loss versus the Falcons.
