2015 Carolina Panthers Season Predictions

Defending back-to-back NFC South champions Carolina Panthers will look to improve on a 7-8-1 season in which some serious positives emerged for this club – Cam Newton was had his issues but still proved his leadership potential.

Jonathan Stewart took control of the running back situation and finally realized his potential and rookie Kelvin Benjamin emerged as a serious pass catching threat.

The Panthers still have Luke Kuechly and a pretty good defense that allowed just 15 points per game in their last six. On paper, Carolina should run away with the NFC South – right?

The key for Carolina is keeping their franchise QB Cam Newton upright and off the injury list. The offensive line was awful last year in pass protection and Newton took the brunt.

The bad news is that the Panthers curiously chose to ignore the position in the offseason – they didn’t improve at all! Newton will have a very talented Kelvin Benjamin and solid weapon Greg Olsen to throw to – that is if he gets the time to do it.

The Panthers will finally go all in with Jonathan Stewart after DeAngelo Williams finally left town. Stewart was terrific down the stretch – he had 486 yards on 91 carries in Carolina’s last five games. The key for Stewart is health – he has missed 20 games the last three seasons with various injuries.

If Stewart goes down this year – there is nobody waiting in the wings to become a serious threat for this team.

One constant for the Panthers has been defense. Their secondary was terrific at the end of last season and goes into this year with basically the same corp. – although they added Charles Tillman, formerly of the Bears.

He could be a big-play guy but has had major injury issues of his own – he missed almost all of last season and eight games in 2013.

The loss of Greg Hardy could be an issue for this team, although they still have Charles Johnson terrorizing quarterbacks.

Add in Luke Kuechly and Thomas Davis, who could be the best linebacking duo in the game right now and the Panthers look absolutely set on defense.

Panthers 2015 Prediction:

This year comes down to Carolina’s offense taking care of their end of the bargain – the defense will do their jobs! The pressure is on Cam Newton, armed with a new $104 million contract extension to get it done.

The Carolina Panthers look like a .500 team to me. Based on history there is a good chance that either Cam or Jonathan Stewart miss some games this year – their horrid offensive line almost guarantees it! Without either of those guys, this team becomes extremely ordinary.

My guess is that the Panthers finish 9-7 – the offense will be just OK and the defense will steal them some games.
