2015 NFC Conference Champion Odds – NFL Handicapping Picks

2015 NFC Preview and Predictions

Football is finally back baby! The offseason always seems too long! Vegas has updated their Futures – it hasn’t made much of a difference for the NFC. The Seahawks are still the favorites followed by the 49ers.

With training camps under way, the oddsmakers haven’t wavered – but keep in mind that the parity of the NFL always seem to have a team or two emerge from sleeper to contender status.

Let’s take a look at all of the NFC teams, their odds to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl in 2015.

Seattle Seahawks Odds to win NFC 17/4

Seattle has somehow slipped behind Denver as Super Bowl faves but are still expected to emerge from the NFC – maybe because the failed to significantly improve themselves in the offseason. The question is – what’s to improve? Some controversy in the form of a Marshawn Lynch hold-out was rectified last week – Lynch is back in camp looking fit and ready to terrorize again.

The Hawks will have one of the best defenses in the game again this year, if not the best and the offense with a healthy Percy Harvin and Sidney Rice looks as balanced as any in the NHL this upcoming season.

Seattle would be a clear-cut favorite if not for the division they play in. The fact that repeating as champs is extraordinarily difficult and the realization that their schedule figures to be a bit tougher in 2014 has some looking elsewhere.

San Francisco 49ers Odds to win 2015 NFC Championship 9/2

The 49ers exist as Seattle’s biggest challenge this upcoming year but they hurdle the Niners have to clear is a huge one – the Hawks and the 12th man have been a nightmare for San Francisco the last couple of seasons – no reason to think differently about this upcoming year.

That said the 49ers, like the Seahawks own one of the two or three most balanced teams in the league – added motivation in the form of beating Seattle could carry this team over the top.
A couple of question marks exist however – there’s the Aldon Smith situation and the NaVarro Bowman injury – issues that make the 49ers a deserved third choice in the eyes of Vegas. There is also the age concern and the level of punishment Frank Gore has endured the last few years.

Because of those question marks, San Fran is second favorite in the NFC and seemingly rightfully so.

Green Bay Packers Odds to win 2015 NFC Championship 6/1

May be the best value on the board – the Packers will have a healthy Aaron Rodgers and a new emphasis on a running game in the form of Eddie Lacy this upcoming season. Green Bay is just a few years removed from being on the verge of a dynasty – only a few things have to go right for this team to knock on the door again.

Chicago Bears Odds to win 2015 NFC Championship 15/2

Not sure about the Bears – the defense was atrocious last year – very un-bear like. Marc Trestman has the offense looking up but with a sketchy “D” it is hard to imagine Chicago getting by the other powers in the NFC.

Matt Forte, Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffrey make up a terrific offensive attack but without a solid defense this team can’t go far in the playoffs.

New Orleans Saints Odds to win 2015 NFC Championship 15/2

We know that the Saints will put up points again this year – Drew Brees is absolutely one of the best the game has to offer. Jimmy Graham is apparently happy and Sean Peyton should be motivated to have his team better than they were last year.

A couple of question marks have me wary – an average defense and the absence of a reliable running game still have New Orleans down the list of Conference favorites and rightfully so. But a relatively weak division and a promise to fill the holes on this team has the Saints looking like an intriguing 15/2.

Philadelphia Eagles Odds to win 2015 NFC Championship 14/1

With a year under Chip Kelley the Eagles should be better – should! But something tells me this team overachieved last year. The fact is that the Eagles will catch nobody by surprise – opposing defensive coordinators will know exactly what is coming at them this year.

LeSean McCoy is absolutely one of the best but was heavily utilized last season and DeSean Jackson is in Washington. It is hard to imagine McCoy maintaining last year’s pace and equally hard to think that Foles can be as effective with arguably his biggest weapon playing for the Eagles rival.

Detroit Lions Odds to win 2015 NFC Championship 18/1

This team just can’t seem to get over the hump – no reason to think they take the enormous jump here.

Arizona Cardinals Odds to win 2015 NFC Championship 22/1

Too tough a division and not enough trust in a running game and Carson palmer has Arizona down the list. Their defense should keep them in games but the Cards simply don’t possess the balance of the contenders in the NFC.

Atlanta Falcons Odds to win 2015 NFC Championship 22/1

This team seriously underachieved last year and may be the most intriguing sleeper in the NFC. They are just one season removed from being one of the best teams in the league – the defense should be improves and the return of Julio Jones to full health gives the Falcons a huge boost.

Carolina Panthers 22/1
New York Giants 25/1
St. Louis Rams 25/1
Washington Redskins 25/1
Dallas Cowboys 28/1
Tampa Bay Buccaneers 33/1
Minnesota Vikings 40/1
