2015 Falcons Preview & NFL Football Future Lines & Pick

2015 Atlanta Falcons Season Predictions

One of the more disappointing teams in the last two seasons, the Atlanta Falcons begin their quest back toward respectability in an NFC South Division that is very much up for grabs.

What happened to this team? It was 2012 that this team looked like something special, they played in the NFC Championship game and almost went to the Super Bowl. Fast forward two seasons and the Falcons have gone 10-22.

Atlanta hired former Seahawks D-Coordinator Dan Quinn to run the show and that’s a good thing. The question is – does this team look better than the one that won just 6 games last year? I’m not sure.

The Falcons biggest weakness the last couple of seasons has been defense. They scored 381 points last year – not bad but gave up 417 (26.1 per game) – not good. Atlanta, armed with a new defensive style head coach drafted pass rusher Vic Beasley eighth overall and got tall corner Jalen Collins in the second round. Alongside Desmond Trufant, the Falcons could have a decent cornerback duo.

But that’s about where it ends. Holes that needed to be filled just couldn’t because of the sheer volume of improvement needed. Seriously, this defense was BAD!

That leaves the offense that looks like it is going to have to score 30 a night to keep their team respectable. Matt Ryan is a stud – he threw for 4,694 yards, 28 touchdowns and only 14 interceptions in 2014. Julio Jones is a stud – 104 passes for 1,593 yards and six touchdowns. So what’s the problem?

The problem is that Ryan will be throwing to Jones, who is great, a vastly deteriorating Roddy White, the unflattering pair of Jacob Tamme and Tony Moeaki. His weapons aren’t that great. The loss of Harry Douglas could loom large – just watch.

And then there is the question of who Ryan is going to hand the ball off to. Devonta Freeman and Antone Smith? Neither scares anyone right now.

The Falcons offensive line is still a mess – many of the positions haven’t even been decided on yet. Matt Ryan could be running for his life this year and the running backs will almost certainly struggle to find any room to run.

It’s pretty hard to get excited about Atlanta’s offense unless you own Julio Jones in your Fantasy league.

Falcons 2015 Prediction:

I think the Falcons are an improved team. Just the addition of Dan Quinn makes them better. The question is – did the Falcons do enough in the offseason to be a contender?

This looks like a .500 team to me – 8-8 is where I see the Falcons finishing. Maybe it’s good for an NFC South crown, maybe it’s not.
