2015 Chargers Preview & NFL Football Future Lines & Pick

2015 San Diego Chargers Season Predictions

Following back-to-back 9-7 seasons, the Chargers are looking to make a splash in the AFC West. With the Broncos seemingly going downward and the Chiefs essentially in the same boat as the Chargers, San Diego has a legit chance at making a push toward the top spot.

The Chargers have solidified their depth and offer a lot of options both offensively and defensively.

A solid draft, along with some free agent signings will make for some interesting competitions heading into the preseason.

One place where there are no questions is at the quarterback position. QB Phillip Rivers was at the bud of many trade rumors this past offseason, but the Chargers never pulled the trigger on them, thus showing their trust in Rivers. The 33 year old veteran threw for 4286 yards and 31 touchdowns in 2014. Rivers has shown his ability to make quick, smart decisions, while having excellent accuracy. While he isn’t in the top tier of QBs in the NFL, he’s made a name for himself as a solid playmaker.

The running back position has always been a question for San Diego. Last season the Chargers had essentially 3 or even as many as 4 different backs rotation, which never gave the players any sort of consistency. Their leading rusher was a rookie in Brandon Oliver. He rushed for just 582 yards, which says a lot if he led the team. The Chargers at least made the effort to change their ways as they drafted Melvin Gordon out of Wisconsin.

Gordon will be backed up by Oliver and Danny Woodhead, who was one of the backs in the 2014 rotation. Gordon though will get the majority of the load as he was drafted for his ability to break away and be a game changer.

The receivers depth is filled with solid options. Malcom Floyd, Keenan Allen, and Stevie Johnson offer a solid variety of options for Rivers to throw to. The depth and many options is especially a good thing with TE Antonio Gates suspended for the first 4 games.

Defensively, the Chargers lost a majority of their linebacking core. With that, Manti T’eo will be the headliner for them. In the secondary, Brandon Flowers and Eric Weddle highlight a solid secondary that will be extremely tough to pass on.

2015 San Diego Chargers Season Prediction:

The AFC West is wide open this season. It’s there for the taking for San Diego, but finding their identity will be a key. San Diego has shown at times in the past they are a streaky team. When things are going well, they’re one of the best teams. However, when things are going wrong, Rivers has shown clear signs of frustration, which leads him into some bad decisions in the pass game.

The Chargers may be competing with Kansas City for a Wild Card spot this season. Denver is still the class of the division, but don’t rule out Phillip Rivers making a statement or two as they try to move up the standings.
