Cappers Picks NFL Power Rankings – Week 1 – September 3rd 2013

Dave B’s NFL Power Rankings – Week 1

The 2013 NFL season is finally upon us – it seems like years since we saw the Ravens hoist the Vice Lombardi Trophy! There are some definite favorites to play for the Super Bowl this year and some obvious doormats yet again.

NFL Power Rankings – Where Every Team Sits Heading into Week 1

So which teams have caught the eye of the football world heading into the season and which teams are worthy of the top dozen spots on Dave B’s Weekly NFL Power Ranking?

Let’s take a look.

1. 49ERS

There aren’t a whole lot of holes on this team at all except for maybe the secondary but hopes are that the defensive front will make up for that glaring weakness. They also have some issues at the receiver position. But there is no team with greater expectations heading into the year.

Jim Harbaugh should win Coach of the Year and the 49ers still look like the most complete team in the league.

2. BRONCOS

You could realistically call them 1B. If not for a gaffe by Rahim Moore in the AFC Championship game we may be talking about the Broncos as the defending champs. This year they have a few issues heading into the season but with strong coaching, Peyton Manning and arguably the best receiving corp. in the game they enter the season #2.

3. SEAHAWKS

You want a 1C? Here it is. The Hawks went out and bolstered one of the best defenses in the game claiming two of the top free agents on the market. They will give the 49ers a run in the NFC West. With Marshawn Lynch finally playing like that elite guy and Russell Wilson with a year under his belt, things should be pretty fun in the Pacific Northwest.

This team simply doesn’t lose at home – if they can go .500 on the road they may get a first round playoff bye!

4. FALCONS

The Atlanta Falcons have been so close for a number of years now but just can’t seem to get over the hump. The addition of Steven Jackson is interesting for sure – the offense looks deadly now doesn’t it? If this defense holds up there is no reason this team doesn’t win a playoff game or two this year.

5. TEXANS

The Texans may benefit from a few teams in the AFC (New England and Baltimore) taking a small step backward this year. Arian Foster is dinged already though and Andre Johnson can’t seem to stay healthy.

But on paper (and that is what this is) Houston has the defense and the tools on offense to be elite this year – health is the major question mark!

6. PACKERS

When you have the best QB in the game you are going to be high on the Power Rankings! Aaron Rodgers alone makes this a very dangerous team. A sketchy O-line, an unproven running game and an incredulous inability to stop the run keep the Pack out of the Top 5.

7. RAVENS

While I don’t love the Ravens the defending champs have to be in the Top 7 at least don’t they? This team lost a lot of talent and character this off-season however and Joe Flacco is likely still recovering from his $100 million contract hangover. Although they enter the season Top 10, they may not be here for long.

8. PATRIOTS

Surprised the Pats are so low? Don’t be. But Rob Gronkowski will likely be back in Week 2 or 3 and Tom Brady apparently has some chemistry with Danny Amendola already. This defense looked good last year and although the Pats sit #8 right now it wouldn’t be a shock to see Bill Belichek’s club Top 5 in a few weeks. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

9. BENGALS

This team has been knocking on the door – two straight playoff appearances. Andy Dalton will hopefully have learned a thing or two and there is absolutely denying the skills of perhaps one of the biggest game-changers in the NFL – AJ Green. The defense has them Top 10 – the offense could get them to Top 5 if they play to their potential.

10. REDSKINS

Robert Griffin will start Week 1 which is a huge boon for this team. A healthy Fred Davis and Pierre Garcon will also help get this team over the top this year. They are early favorites in the competitive NFC East and are Top 10 because of that!

11. SAINTS

Sean Payton is back from suspension which instantly makes this team better. Now if the defense would do their part! Rob Ryan was hired as defensive coordinator and although I don’t think he’s THE ANSWER (like he thinks he is), Ryan and Payton will make this team accountable and therefore better.

The Saints have to be better and will be Top 10 in my Rankings in a week or so – almost guaranteed!

12. COLTS

Defense is the big question mark here as is the health of Ahmad Bradshaw. Andrew Luck is The Man and he alone makes this team a threat each and every week.

Optimism has the Colts at 12 – hopes are that their play keeps them there!

13. VIKINGS
14. GIANTS
15. BEARS
16. DOLPHINS
17. RAMS
18. COWBOYS
19. STEELERS
20. CHARGERS
21. BUCCANEERS
22. PANTHERS
23. BROWNS
24. LIONS
25. CARDINALS
26. EAGLES
27. TITANS
28. CHIEFS
29. BILLS
30. JETS
