Georgia Tech vs. Miami (FL) Betting | Week 8 Free Pick

CFB Football Previews – Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets vs Miami Hurricanes

It took seven games, but No. 20 Georgia Tech finally got exposed last week. Virginia had an answer for the triple option and handed the Jackets their first loss of 2011. Georgia Tech is determined to show it’s still a contender, not a pretender, but the sledding doesn’t get any easier this week.

Next up is a trip to Miami to face a Hurricanes team gaining momentum after a slow start.

(20) Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (6-1)

At first glance, you might not think Virginia successfully bottled up Georgia Tech’s offense last week. 272 rushing yards? Wow! However, if you know the triple option, you know that the Yellow Jackets usually execute it better than that. They average 347.9 rushing yards, 168.9 passing yards and 516.7 total yards per contest. Against Virginia, the Jackets mustered 296 total yards. Tevin Washington passed for a paltry 24 yards and was intercepted twice.

Washington was forced to tote the rock himself most of the time and Virginia handled a suddenly one-dimensional Georgia Tech offense just fine. The Jackets also allowed a concerning 407 yards of offense.

Miami Hurricanes (3-3)

Miami was hoping to contend for a national title this season but maybe those expectations were unrealistic. Under new head coach Al Golden, perhaps they were simply meant to experience growing pains this season. Is it too early to wonder if the ’Canes are out of the woods? They gave a good Virginia Tech team a major scare on the road two weeks ago and took down North Carolina on the road last week. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The UNC outgained Miami, the Hurricanes bent without breaking, winning 30-24. Most encouraging was that Jacory Harris stepped up under center when dynamite tailback Lamar Miller was held to 29 rushing yards. Harris threw for three touchdowns and no interceptions and completed two thirds of his passes.

The pick:

Harris may not flourish this week against a 14th-ranked Georgia Tech pass defense. But the Jackets showed last week that they’re quite vulnerable against the run. Miller has had his way with many defenses this season and should do so again versus GT.

Miami’s “D” will certainly give up its yards on the ground but it at least knows the blueprint for stopping Georgia Tech now. I believe the ’Canes are a solid pick as slight home favorites
