NCAAF Week 6 – Florida Gators at Arkansas Razorbacks

The Florida Gators (3-1 SU, 2-2 ATS), who had national title hopes, were really stung by last week’s loss. On Saturday they will try to make amends for that when they visit the Arkansas Razorbacks (2-2 SU, 0-3 ATS) in Southeastern Conference college football action that is scheduled to kick off at 12:30 PM ET at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium (natural turf) in Fayetteville, AR.

I have had friends who are University of Florida graduates who insist that Ole Miss is actually a very good team, and that it wasn’t just a flop Florida pulled in losing a game AT HOME to the Rebels last Saturday. I’ll buy that to a certain extent. But you still have to do several things wrong to get beat by a team whose quarterback completed nine of 20 passes, and had no rusher with more than 60 yards. The Gators could erased a lot of bad stuff if they had only made that extra point at the end.

One thing that was very encouraging is that Percy Harvin, who only had three catches coming into the game, caught ten passes for 186 yards, chalked up 82 yards rushing and scored two TD’s. And it’s fortunate that the Gators are hooking up with Arkansas here. The Razorbacks were not the nation’s #1-ranked rushing team last year. But everyone knows they had the best backfield, as any team with both Darren McFadden and Felix Jones would. Their presence made Casey Dick look better than he really was. Now they are not there, and the Hogs are rated 109th in rushing, and they look every bit of it, and Dick, despite some improvement (58%, 969 yards), still isn’t at the point where the team can rely on his arm.

And what has this team accomplished anyway? A four-point win over Division 1-AA Western Illinois. A one-point escape against Louisiana-Monroe. Losses by 35 points to Alabama and 42 points against Texas. Arkansas has allowed almost five yards a rush. Tim Tebow provides both a passing game AND a running game for the Gators. And Dick will not get fat against this Florida “D” that has allowed only three TD passes. Nor will have much time as his team have given up 17 sacks already (most per game in country). We’re laying the points with Florida, the 24.5-point favorite in the BetUS NCAA football betting odds.
