College Football Odds: Get on the Miami Bandwagon

Miami vs. Virginia Tech Preview – Get On That Miami Bandwagon!

I’m a big fan of hype trains, and none are bigger right now than the University of Miami’s sudden and unexpected locomotive of awesomeness. The Hurricanes have thundered out to a 2-0 SU record, and now face the Virginia Tech Hokies. When the ninth ranked team clashes with the eleventh ranked team, it’ll be an ACC matchup that could very well define the division. Either this becomes Miami’s to lose, or another wide open affair.

Miami is a comfortable 6-3 ATS in their last 9 games and have gone 7-3 SU in their last 10 games. With Jacory Harris thrusting himself in to the Heisman picture, the Canes have been riding a momentum bus behind Harris’s 656 yards, 69.5 percent completed, 5 touchdowns and just two picks. The Canes have the 16th best offense in the league, going 465.0 total yards per game while ranking 30th in scoring with 35.5 points for. With speed, speed and way more speed than most of their opponents, the Canes are here to stay. They just have to prove they can capitalize on their strengths, and keep piling up wins.

Miami Hurricanes (2-0) vs. Virginia Tech Hokies (2-1)
Saturday, September 26th — Lane Stadium, Blacksburg — 3:30pm EST
NCAAF Betting Line: Miami -3 (47.5)

Tyrod Taylor has been having an admirable season with 444 yards thrown for and 4 touchdowns, but that hasn’t done much to push them in games against ranked opponents. Taylor and the Hokies have been able to enjoy a 198.0 rush yards average per game, but those mega yards have come off against Marshall and a low-end Nebraska team. Against ‘Bama, the Hokies were led to a 34-24 slaughter.

Miami’s defense is simply viscious. They use their unrelenting speed to frustrate runners, and murder quarterbacks in turnovers, deflected passes and hurried throws. Even Frank Beamer has questioned his team’s offensive identity, and with Taylor trying to find himself in the middle of a hurricane, there won’t be much soul searching going on for the Hokies on Saturday.

The oddsmakers opened this line up as a pick ‘em, but then quickly corrected the line to -3 for the Hurricanes. Side with the oddsmakers, who had to keep this line low because of the road disadvantage the Canes will be up against. Still, as of right now, this is a team that the oddsmakers have to low ball so that they get action on the game. Take advantage of that and bet Miami in the UNDER.
