The Sun Devils will look to shut down Heisman hopeful Jake Locker and the Huskies as they try to get back on the rails after losing three straight.

The Huskies lead the all-time series against Arizona State, 15-14, although ASU notched a 24-17 victory on a touchdown pass in the final seconds when these teams met last year. The Sun Devils are seeking its seventh straight victory over Washington.

ASU are coming off a heartbreaking 31-28 loss at Oregon State last time out, but despite their record, have been rolling up huge chunks of offensive real estate while posting nearly 35 points per game and rank 9th nationally in passing offense (301.2 ypg) and 17th in total offense (468.8 ypg).

Quarterback Stephen Threet remains the top passer in the Pac-10 but was limited to just 14-of-29 passing for 203 yards and a touchdown against the Beavers. He did make a few key mistakes, throwing three interceptions, and to no fault of his own, was sacked six times.

The ground assault is led by freshman running back Deantre Lewis who has rushed three straight games over the century mark. The Huskies should expect to see a healthy dose of Lewis as the Devils look to keep the Washington defense guessing.

That could be a real problem for the Huskies who have had its fair share of problems containing the oppositions run game, allowing 234 yards per contest. Not to mention they are ranked 107th in the nation in total defense (440.25 ypg), giving up 32.5 points per game.

Washington will hope it can ride the momentum it gained with a dramatic 32-31 win over No. 18 USC thanks to Erik Folk’s 32-yard field goal on the final play.

Locker threw for 310 yards and ran for 110 in the win at USC. Although he is completing only 53.8 percent of his passes while averaging 234 passing yards per game, he has thrown seven touchdowns and only two interceptions so far this season.

His favorite target has been WR Jermaine Kearse, who has 107 receiving yards per game, tops among Pac-10 wideouts.

The Huskies running game is solid, as Chris Polk has amassed 356 rushing yards and three scores on 66 carries (5.4 ypc).

The Devils’ defense that ranks 5th in total defense and 7th in scoring defense in the PAC-10 could be a challenged by such a balanced attack. Not to mention ranking 107th in the nation in sacks (1.00), which will give Locker plenty of time to operate in the pocket.

The Huskies are looking to string together back-to-back victories for the first time this season while the Sun Devils tries to snap its three-game losing skid.

Barring a vast improvement in a one-week, it’s tough to imagine the Huskies keeping ASU’s potent offense in check.
